Japanese wedges

Im a self confessed Wedge ho

Ive had loads

Callaway, Ping, Taylormade, Cleveland, Vokey, Nike, Hogan, Macgregor, Mizuno, Bridgestone,
Vega, Sonartec, Crews, Tourstage (Bridgestone) , KZG, JL ( vega ) , UNited Golf
Probs more.......??........Thats just off the top of my head

Plenty.......Cast and Forged

But ( to the OP) dont go thinking just cos theyre Jap forged they are going to be Softer feeling
Ive currently got 2 Vega ( diff models ) in bag
1 is Black Raw finish and is firmish rather than soft
other is bronze sort of colour and is much softer off the face

But.....Big But
If its soft feeling youre after
Probably softest feeling wedge Ive had ( still got ) is a Taylormade RAC TP satin, Y cutter, lovely wedge:thup:
And wasnt expensive either

If u want to try Jap Forged wedges, buy a pair of Crews, theyre available for less than a Vokey, and if like my Trip Sole model, spin like mad
My mate got some recently for about £59.....
Could have been , madeinjapan website ??

What kind of cost are these icy's? Compare to the likes of vokeys?

Mine were £75 each or discounted to £130 for the pair so cheaper than most "off the peg" wedges.

Beauty is, as they say, in the eye of the beholder!

It certainly is..... And I think they look spanking....... During the chat on the phone today, Iain was very patient and in no hurry to be on his way. Our meet will involve a short game assessment of my wedge play, and a chance for me to try his wedges. Once he sees what I can/ can't do, he'll make some recommendations and will fit and custom grind bounce etc to help improve where he sees necessary. He quoted the same price to me as Metal Mickie mentioned above, which I think is extremely competitive with regards to some of the off the shelf wedges, and it includes three maintenance checks in the first year to keep the grooves in shape. Looking forward to it, hope the weather doesn't cause a need to postpone..

That sounds awesome.

It would certainly be interesting to hear some real-world feed back on those wedges.

I find myself interested.

Were it not for the weather I might be able to provide that but since I got my wedges I have managed only one full round and 13 holes. Let's face it you could chip with a 1 iron and it would probably still check at the moment.

Short game practice on a very well drained, sand based practice ground did, however, show up the great spin and control that is possible. That was the case even with my pathetic excuse of a short game and was achieved from a variety of lies; first cut, deep rough and packed sand.

Would be happy to provide more feedback if and when the weather improves sufficiently to play under more normal conditions.
