Played JustOne at his gaff today, tight game all the way round. I was 2 down with 3 to play. Won the 16th (toughest hole on the course) to get it back to one, stood on the 17th and rifled a drive straight down the middle.
James stepped up and hit the most horrendous drive I had seen all day.
He got hold of it but it was going about 80 yards out to the right, massive great block which might have turned into a draw had it not hit a pine tree about 50 yards out from the tee. Clattered around and we watched for it to drop, but no sight of it. "Cushy" I thought, "looks like it's all square going up the last". Fancied my chances.
Looked to where my ball was sitting nicely up the middle of the fairway, and what do we spot? Another bloody ball about 20 yards short of mine. It couldn't have been James's, not the way he hit that tree. Surely not.
I wandered up to have a look (more out of curiosity than anything else) and sure enough, it was his ball. How the hell had it got there from where he hit that tree????
He then proceeded to wedge to about 2 feet and made birdie to my par.
Bollocks

:( :( :( :( :( :(

I always thought James was a bright lad. You??? 10 watt :D ;)

At least I make cheques out to the right person.
Still, I guess you were only told about 8 times and the thread's only been running for a month or so, so I guess it hadn't sunk in to your Northern bonce
Strong in't arm, thick in't head

;)

How can a bloody ball hit a pine tree 50 yards out and end up 200 yards up the middle of the fairway?

200 yards?? I thought you said he was 20 yards behind you, now did you honestly hit it 220 yds or are you telling porkies? :D

OK it could have ended up 180 yards up the fairway then. I was a good 200 up there. Into a stiffish breeze, hardly any run. That was a cracking 5 wood

Read the Woodhall thread..... DICK!!!!!!

I dunno, you hit a 5-wood 200yds bouncing it off two (or three) trees on the way, leaving a solid 50° from 137 which you stiff to 2ft and tap in the birdie to WIN the match and all you get is moaning!!!

Anyone might think Smiffy wanted me to lose!

I followed it up with my 56 degree from about 115 which hit the back of the green, hopped on once and spun back quite a few yards to about 4 feet. I missed the birdie putt though.

Smiffy said it was into the wind, but all holes are into wind and uphill for him.
