Whether I like the course, the cost, and the attitude / conduct of fellow members are pretty much the only concerns I have about deciding to join a club

Most important of course for me is the course, cost, and how much I’d be likely to use the course, i.e. value for money.

Rye, Swinley, Muirfield, Ganton, and RSG can insist on me wearing a purple leotard in the clubhouse for all I care, I’d be very happy to join any of them! I have little need for any of the facilities in the clubhouse outside of the changing room anyway

What would be your choice of footwear to compliment the Leotard?

i have no problem wearing a jacket and tie for a nice evening dinner dance function at the club.
The bigger problem there is paying for my wife's new dress.

I wouldn't want to have to wear a jacket and tie to play gin or poker with the guys in the clubhouse, however,
or to just read all the golf magazines there so that I don't have to subscribe to them myself.

I said No, but it depends on the type of golfer you are I suppose.

Some golfers only ever turn up and play golf, then go home. For them, wearing jacket and tie in the clubhouse would be irrelevant.
