It's stableford, not stapleford

"Playing Partner" is ambiguous. It's partner, opponent or fellow com petitor depending on the kind of game it is.

Watching a rerun of the Masters & heard this used to describe the fellow competitor with whom you are playing

Do the French shout fore or quatre, if they shout fore right, (what's French for right) what happens if fellow golfers in France don't speak English, and you get ******* with a spalding ( I can spell that). Same as in the rest of the world.

Well the silly business of adding "right" or "left" to the the shout of FORE! only started to appear once US golf coverage became regular on our tellies.

Imagine standing there, hearing FORE RIGHT yelled, so you look around, try and work out where the shout came from, then try and work out, maybe in reverse, which ways they meant when they shouted RIGHT.... Clonk... Ball on bonce 😃

Better to just yell fore and everyone ducks

I picked up my scorecard from the pro shop a week or so ago to see "April Monthly Stapleford" scrawled on the top. So even pro shop staff get it wrong. Petty, I know, but it drives me nuts.

Nowadays it's more known as StrongandStableford
