It sickens me that I was correct!

In the South East it's been now accepted that it was a paedophile ring and covered up by those in higher positions - seriously, how can there be any 'mitigation' and certainly NO 'good character ' Then there's The Vatican!

The church has so much to answer for/To and parents should not leave their children alone there.

Quite frankly, in my opinion, anyone who makes any excuses for the people that carried these atrocities out are just as bad as the monsters that committed the deeds.

Shameful doesn't even come close!

I cannot comment on every single person who committed, knew of, or covered up every crime as I do not know the nature and severity of the crimes and the nature of any knowledge or cover-up.

They should all be dealt with as any individual who commits a crime or covers up for that crime - and as for anyone and any crime - mitigations, character and previous should be taken into account. I make no differentiation between those in or associated with a religion or church and those with no such association.

We are all equal under God.

For sexually abusing children?
Are you sure? I mean, just think about what you've stated.
Mitigation, character and previous is irrelevant for child abusers.
THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR THAT BEHAVIOUR!

Am I right in saying that if priest 'A' rapes a 10 year old girl then confesses to priest 'B', priest 'B' is forbidden by Canon Law to report priest 'A' to the police?

I firmly believe that the “church” as a whole is a corrupt and vile organisation. Used to control the masses in the past through fear and vitriol. Responsible for mass murder, sexual exploitation and theft. If they were a public corporation they would be hated and vilified by the entire world. People find “solace” in these places?

All his holier than thou rubbish where people hide behind their various religions to proclaim that they are “good righteous” people who then can get forgiveness for their sins by saying a few hollow words and maybe slipping the Rev a few bucks.

I will stand by my assertions that religion is a big pile of steaming turd and there is no god.

Better put in many ways than what I wrote

Utterly and totally offensive - what you going to do about it Mods.

I know nothing of priests, bishops or the likes in my denomination and if you understand anything about the Protestant Reformation you'll know why - and what drove Martin Luther.

I did not say that there is. I said that they should be dealt with by the law in EXACTLY the same way that any member of the public would be dealt with.

If they held a position of trust then they should perhaps get dealt with harsher - as teachers might be - and also background and previous behaviour and character should be taken into account - as they would be for you or I.

You completely seem to misunderstand that not all religious denominations put store in religious hierarchies or in any belief that some have any special status that affords them greater deference, treatment or allowances - or that any are closer to God than the rest of us.

We are all equal in the eyes of and under God. And we should all be dealt with in law likewise.

As can every government and large sections of their respective populations, under the direction of their governments.

Iraq, Afghanistan and Libya shouldn’t exactly be trumpeted in the UK’s recent history.

We are all equal in the eyes of and under God.

If we are, perhaps you could explain why you consider you have the right to be offended by someone's post about religion which is not specifically aimed at you, yet feel you have the right to insult all & sundry who have done nothing more than exercise their right to vote for something that you personally disagree with? There seems to be a certain lack of equality in that, and it certainly flies in the face of what I remember from my religious education about Christian behaviour.
