It sickens me that I was correct!

I remember, quite some time ago, asserting that abuse of the vulnerable was not restricted to any particular 'brand' of religion!

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-43485422

Somehow, there needs to be some 'inspection/audit' of the pastoral care that is provided to those in need, to ensure that abuse is prevented!

Watched a film some time ago about the abuse of children in Boston USA. It was sickening. At the end of the film it showed a list of the parishes throughout the world where sex abuse of children occurred.
Disgusting what was the norm in many churches. No one will convince Tashyboy that this went right to the top of many churches and faiths.

It was called Spotlight

Abuse of children by church people has been constantly in the news here in the South East for quite sometime, if it was the BBC there would be calls to close it down etc etc. It's been covered up for years, I'm appalled by the church leaders who've, time and time again, turned a blind eye. I wouldn't trust the church ever and hope my grand children never set foot in one !

I'm right with you on this one.

I appreciate this is a little off subject but I keep reading of people who have been sexually abused as 'Survivors' Surely a 'survivor' is someone who has lived where others have died.

Many didn't survive.

Saying that's a good point just doesn't sound right. But you are correct. Missis T has just mentioned when I quoted the last two posts " that some people are mentally gone through the traumas they have suffered". " They are nigh on surviving from day to day because of what they have suffered.

The victims who get abused are often convinced that it's their fault.
Many turn to alcohol and drugs to escape the guilt and others commit suicide.

Some even get murdered to stop them from uncovering the truth.

In these instances, a survivor is one of the few who can carry on with their lives almost as if nothing had happened, despite the fact that they carry it around with them for the rest of their lives.
Very, very strong willed people.

It makes me very sad...

So, as someone who is a church goer, do you think that every single person who committed these crimes, knew about them and/or covered them up should be sacked from their church (whatever religion), or any titles they still hold in retirement be stripped?

I cannot comment on every single person who committed, knew of, or covered up every crime as I do not know the nature and severity of the crimes and the nature of any knowledge or cover-up.

They should all be dealt with as any individual who commits a crime or covers up for that crime - and as for anyone and any crime - mitigations, character and previous should be taken into account. I make no differentiation between those in or associated with a religion or church and those with no such association.

We are all equal under God.

As someone who absolutely doesn't believe in God, i regret that your answer mirrors pretty much what the church says every time this situation repeats. We are clearly not all equal as church employees seem to prove on regular occasions.

Sad that they aren't all sacked when found out.

Just sitting watching BBC local news and Justin Welby not saying anything at all, it's outrageous that these perpetrators are not ALL dealt with properly - there is no defence when children are abused !!! The should ALL be imprisoned if they did it, allowed it or ignored it.

I see you'd want any mitigation or good character taken into account but fail to mention the clear abuse of trust in these cases.

Shameful, utterly shameful.

There can be any mitigation in a sexual crime against a child???

Sadly yes. A victim of child sex abuse is more likely to also be an abuser later in life... its a hugely complex area, the psychological damage puts so much strain on a young person it can also physically inhibit areas of growth in the brain leading them to have psychopathic tendencies including becoming sexual abusers themselves... its so, so sad.

In the South East it's been now accepted that it was a paedophile ring and covered up by those in higher positions - seriously, how can there be any 'mitigation' and certainly NO 'good character ' Then there's The Vatican!

The church has so much to answer for/To and parents should not leave their children alone there.
