My mate played in a golf day this week and lost out to a guy who played off 20.

When asked where he played, he replied "All different courses. Nowhere in particular really."

When then asked how did he have a handicap of 20, he replied "Well, my Dad used to play off 20 and sometimes he beats me and sometimes I beat him, so 20's about right."

Now, I've been having a really good look on the CONGU website and I just can't seem to find this method of calculating a handicap.

Am I missing something? :D :D

CONGU is no use to you.

You need to buy the book - "How to blag it in golf (and win a few prizes off proper golfers by making it up as you go along)".

Snappy title, I'm sure you'll agree.

I try and avoid serious games with player like this. :o

Trouble is at a Golf.Day you get.the non-serious golfers out, they have no real idea as to their standard and as a result walk off with prizes.

The good news is that Fragger beats me sometimes so now he plays off 9

Happy days...

Or you're off 23, depending on how you look at it? :D

Guy at work does this. Plays a course with his brother most of the time who plays off a 10. The problem is he's too tight to play for a membership and he admits this. So he plays charity days at my Golf club and makes up a handicap. He claims he loses to his brother by 4 holes usually and because our course is harder he adds another 2 shots so plays off a 16 on these days. Considering he strikes the ball beautifully and has been playing since he was 9(he's now 40) I thinks hes taking the pee. Oh yeah I forgot to say.....he always wins these charity days and picks up a nice new putter etc

Golf day/society h'caps are a law unto themselves. No point trying to fathom them out. I once played a match against a guy who I had to give 17 shots to in the days it was 3/4 difference. I shot 79 gross(+7) off of 7 when my club h'cap was 11 and lost by a hole. He spent the whole round telling me how his society h'cap was about 8 shots too high. The only hole I didn't give him a shot on I birdied - so did he - what you gonna do?

Society h'caps are in the most part calculated to reward average\poor golf. If you've got half a game about you you can expect to play off a low h'cap and forget about winning.

The best way to solve this problem is to use the "Callaway" scoring system which deducts the "handicap" based on the scores returned. We use it in our society to sort out the visitors prizes for those without GUI handicaps.
