I did a bit of Umpiring (25+ years) - to a reasonably high level (3 National Tourneys and a couple of TV games).
There was nothing quite like starting to reach into the back pocket for the cards to shut the sod that's complaining up!
I'm sure a Sin Bin for some offences would have an amazing effect!
It is an amazing year for Ref blunders though. There will have to be some sort of tech help soon!

You just dont get back chat in hockey - the umpires will make mistakes and you get complaints - it is all done in a respectful way.
The green card sin bin 2 mins and yellow card 5 mins works very well

2 Min Green is new since I stopped playing/ump-ing. Could be chaos to 'administer'. What do you do for the likes of multiple (different person) breaks at PCs - used to be GC for everyone on the 2nd, but can't exactly sin-bin them all! I trust Yellow is 5 mins minimum.
Best 'respectful' criticism weapon a player has is laughter! One guy in particular (an Olympian) was an expert!

Breaks at PC get dealt with the player breaking being sent to the halfway line and then only three at the PC defending - but you dont get many early breaks at PC these days
The green cards arent that many and its worked perfectly so far. But admittedly only in the national league and internationals.
A yellow card is 5 mins and thats it.

The thing that never ceases to amaze me is the myopic tribalism of football fans, this is quite clear by the threads on here.
The ongoing rangers chat and the recent Portsmouth thread leave me a bit puzzled. There is some real unbridled hatred when really there is more to unite than divide. There is a real celebration of the downfall of a rival club, when really without one the other has no real identity.
The other thing is the constant moaning about officials. Again without realising mistakes are human nature, add to the theatre and technology if it happens leads to a sanitised version of the previous.
