Serious possibility, due to the reduction of the r11 woods at DG of me buying one, but Im not really sure if there is much point. I have used the r11 fairway woods and loved them, but I'm not sure if it's worth it as they are so similar to the driver.
What do you use your 3 wood for on the course ? Thank you, and Merry Christmas !

We have a few par 4 touching 450 yds long plus a few 500+ par 5's that normally play into the wind so a fairly strong three wood is essential round my course.

I can think of a couple of reasons people might prefer a 3 wood. Distance of driver is not required from the tee. Acuracy on a particular drive is paramount and some people can not or are scared to use a driver and therefore always use a 3 wood.

ive always had 4woods, never played anywhere which i wished i had a 3wood in bag and played alot of courses! personally found 3woods tough to get any flight with off the deck!

Wouldnt be without mine.

Have on occasion left my driver at home and used my 3 wood off the tee on par 4s and 5s and to be honest I scored as well as I would have with driver.

Adds a little bit of safety from the tee whilst still giving decent yardage.

Get yourself one, you will soon love it;)

i'm thinking the same thing at the moment
i hit a 18 degree wood of the deck quite well 220 -30 yards consitenetly i cant really see the point in a 3 wood as it's much harder to hit with very little gain in distance

the only reason i carry a 3 wood is because im allowed 14 clubs in the bag and i haven't got anything else to put in there

I guess i depends on how you like to spread your 14 clubs, i have just driver and 5 wood, but carry 4 wedges, are you looking to remove a different club? and if so is the 3 wood the best option? or if you are just looking to replace an old 3 wood that you use regulary, then it's an obvious purchase!

Enter 4 wood.
As easy to use as a 5 wood with almost as much distance as a 3 wood.
Or more as you get a higher flight and more carry.
My limit with my 4w is 250 yards. Any further out than that and I'm laying up coz I'm not hitting the green anyway.
I don't actually use mine a lot. Driver is reasonably safe to use a lot of the time and when it isn't then a longish iron does the job.
But I think you need a fairway wood that you can hit reasonably well and if a 5w works then don't knock that either.

i think for that price they are definately worth it.

i think the 3 wood is great from the tee on shorter par 4's and is great for approach shots to par 5's.i've never hit the r11 3 wood but from all the reviews they seem easy to hit from the deck and that is sometimes hard to find.i found with the superfast 2 3wood i had it was brilliant off the deck and from the tee.

what adjustability to you get with the 3 wood?is it the same as the driver in the sense that you can adjust the loft + and -.

i think if oyu can adjust the loft then you can't go wrong at that price, ultimately you are getting 3 clubs in 1.

Normally off the tee when the fairway is a bit narrow or you run the risk of being too long with a driver. Also approaching a par 5 green if you have a chance of getting home in two. Its the longest club in the bag from the fairway unless you are good enough to hit a driver of the deck.

Use it for the 2nd shot on long par 4's. Use it for 2nd shots on par 5's. Use off it off the tee on dog leg holes where a driver would go through the fairway.

I used to love hitting my 3-wood, used to be able to bomb it...those days seem to be gone

I now use a Mizuno Fli-Hi 2, 3 or 4 instead of a wood...doesn't go as far but I'm in play a lot more now.

I would say find something that consistently works for you and don't worry about what number is on the club

cheers
Steve

Exactly what I've thought over the years,I just can't believe 4 woods are not more popular. You would think that there wouldn't be much in it but I find mine a hell of a lot more easier to use than any of the numerous 3 woods I've tried to use over the years.

I doubt that for the average player there is much difference between their 3w and 5w. Certainly not enough to make it worthwhile carrying them both.
