Is Howdidido the worst website ever?

Just playing devils advocate here.

How much money do you contribute to the website?

If nothing your getting a free service where you can check your results? Can't you check your own club website for this?

Just food for fault, if your not paying for a service do you have the right to complain about it?

In effect the site is subsidised by the payments for the machinery and software at the clubs, of which our membership fees contribute to, so as far as Im concerned we do pay for it, just in an indirect way. Results aren't posted on our club site as they are supposed to be fully available on HDID

I'm a member of HDID and I pay the sum total of nothing to the site. So what right do I have to complain?

It's like people who complain about the governement in charge of the country and don't vote at an election?

No you don't,part of your Subs will go towards it,much like it goes towards a Greens Mower which if bust and your greens were not getting cut you would moan like hell.....you're a member after all.

Each and every member pays toward this 'service' through their subscriptions so they have every right to complain about it being utter keech.

Do they???

I was unaware that I contributed to HDID!!!!

My club doesn't use Club 2000 software aan doesn't useHDIDat all so none of my subs go towards HDID.

I'm sure your partial correct at your club. But what if they used a different software to Club 2000?

So what does an average club pay in annual licence fee for the Club2000 software ? £1k £5k ? anyone know ?

Given their supposed support it's not going to be buttons is it

Simon, you are not a member of HDID....you registered to use it...that isn't being a member.
Most people on here don't give 2 hoots about the forum, they are complaining mainly that they cannot get onto the website to see their results. Most clubs post a link on their websites to the HDID site for results and don't post them separately.

Don't confuse the forum with the results service.

I thought that you had to be a member at a user club to be on the forum no??

Not been on it in an age,not since dear old Giblet got the bullet.:whoo:

Pretty sure from our AGM its in the region of £1k per annum. That said our machine is currently up the spout and they arent the best at coming out to fix it on all accounts either

That's fair enough Rick. But how many people who are complaining pay for the the gold service?

Thats all I'm saying. You know me I'm not one to try and stir up an arguement. Just trying to give a different opinion.

My only gripe is the forum is slow. But I don't pay for it so what right do I really have to complain?

...and how many clubs do they "service", loose expression.

On the club2000 website they claim over 1600 clubs use the HDID results service (and thus must have some sort of software and service contract i assume), a large amount of these probably pay in excess of 1k pa

The more I read it seems you dont need to use the machine and software to use the results system and HDID website, so hard to calculate how many clubs have the full package so to speak

For the basic Golf software Club2000 is about £500-£600 pa. Many clubs opt for the touchscreen and EPOS systems too (we didn't) which will undoubtedly take the costs up to around the £1000 quoted above.

We changed to HandicapMaster last year and are more than happy with it. The software is better designed, intuitive, easy to use and more than anything is robust and reliable. The cost is comparable for the first year but then drops to around half the costs of Club2000. The Master Scoreboard website is simpler than HDID but does all the main stuff like showing results, personal scoring history etc really well....oh, and it works, reliably, every time. I am sure that many clubs just pay the money in a "better the devil you know" kind of way as Club 2000 seem to have cornered the market 20 years ago and many will just stay as the change is potentially hard to manage. We haven't regretted it though and would never go back to what is basically an overpriced inferior product.

Amen to that.

We too shifted to the same company and it is far superior, sadly we still have the till system with club2000 but after shelling out nearer £8k not a million years ago the club are less keen to leave even though we pay way too much for a yearly fee for what we get.I would in a flash,in fact if I had the spare cash I would pay for it myself!

The original question was is HDID the worst website ever? I enjoy the forum, tracking my friends rounds, being able to view my results, seeing some of the different stats etc. My club has never had a problem posting the results & I was able to see the results of the 36 hole club champs of a couple of friends over the weekend. Yes it was slow & that's probably the only gripe I have also. Like I said before I have met some life long friends on HDID & I have visited some clubs I probably wouldn't have. Personally I enjoy the forum side more on HDID than I do here.

this type of service has come as a surprise to me my club has a superb web site that gives results of comps. by text message and a full comp results service as well as a personal stroke checker for each hole over a season,i can log my fairways hit, greens in regulation putts per round etc,i can check other members scores and post comments like we do on this forum i thought all clubs had this service and cant see why the should be paying outside companies when lets face it most clubs have a computer to enter results on.
