Is golf easier for short people?

why would it be weird? I'm sure i read that 5 10 was the ideal height for a golfer. being short certainly does help with long iron play. I love my 3 iron, it goes like a rocket.

Weird that someone 2 inches taller than me uses a shaft an inch longer

whilst someone 9 inches shorter uses one practically the same.

If you don't think that's kind of a weird thing then fair enough

I think it's quite intriguing.

I know about the wrist/floor measurement but even in taller golfers you don't see one who says "I had my irons cut down by an inch because I've got long arms". Well I've never known it.

You, sort have, found one now!

I was told that although I'm 6 ft tall I had proportionally long arms and that I should have cut down shafts, but, because it might upset the balance and the resale value of the clubs, to grip 1" down on them.

I liked the idea of being hung like a baboon - but not just in the arms !

I would have thought that the lie angles is much much more critical. Surely, if you get the lie angle correct, you could have the shaft almost any length? Admittedly, if it was much longer it would be harder to hit but probably no more so than a 4 iron is more difficult to hit than a 6...

JustOne, perhaps you are the anomaly playing standard length shafts. You are 2-3" taller than average yet playing standard length clubs designed, presumably, to fit the average man.

I reckon there is a "sweetspot" for height for golfers, and my theory is it is somewhere between 5'10" and 6'3". Sure there are golfers outside this range that make it big, but they aren't common.

I can think of lots of top golfers over 6'. Ernie Els, Nick Faldo, Greg Norman, Bubba Watson, Duston Johnson, Keegan Bradley.

Rory and Louis Oosthuizen are often considered short, but are 5'10" which is average height. But they are "Tour short", so short golfers aren't exactly tearing up the tour - quite the opposite in fact.

I was beginning to wonder that. Having never been fitted for a set of clubs I'm wondering if it's that which has let me down all these years!!!
