I’m getting twitchy looking at new wedges, having just been paid and also due in part to my obsessive nature and the hole in my SW.

A question to the forum, when you’re looking at buying new or replacement wedges, loft and bounce aside, do you look to match the wedges to your irons? By that I don’t mean brand, but probably more in terms of that dreaded combo ‘look and feel’. For example, I carve around a set of G20 irons, which I’m quite content with and very confident with when stood over the ball. The iWedges I have currently (albeit one with a hole in) match the G20s quite closely in terms of appearance, certainly more so than say, a pair of bladed Vokeys. In being that way, there’s no real jump from a shovel to a knife when moving deciding if I should it PW or 52’ (other than loft of course).

Am I making sense? Does anyone else look at wedges this way?

Cheers

I bought my wedges because they matched the irons I am using. Same manufacturer/grips/shaft/headstyle etc... But I'm a bit OCD about this type of thing.. For example, I've recently picked up a new driver.. If it finds its way into the bag, then I'll have to change the 3 wood and Hybrid.. No logical reason for this, I just like things to match..

How did you get a hole in your wedge?

My clubs are Pings and I have 3 Mizuno wedges and also a Cleveland one! Have you considered the cavity back style of wedge if you want to keep a similar look?

I bought my wedges to cover gaps and how they felt when swinging them, oh and I took into account Clevelands £25 trade in too. :)

I brought my first matched set of mpt10 because I loved the look and preferred the feel to the vokeys. Not playing Wilson wedges I got these because I fancied something different and really liked the fg62 blades when I tried them

Do ping off the U and S option in the G20 line?

I have used several manufacturer and model of wedges. Cleveland make a very good wedge in the CG line and the 588 by all accounts. Vokeys too heavy and "dead" feeling to me as are Callaway and Nike wedges. TM had a very good wedge in the Z-TP but stopped making them and the RAC and the ATV that replaced them were, IMO, garbage in comparison.
I am a sucker for Mizuno though and tried MP-R12 line but found them too rounded and large at the toe end. The MP-T4 though is fantastic and one of the best wedges I think I have ever used.

I rarely like the stock sand wedge offered in sets (G25 in my previous set) and the I only go to PW. I prefer to have a matching brand so looked at the Ping Tour (gourge) wedge as a first choice. Just my preference but if I didn't like those I'd have no qualms about looking at Cleveland, Vokey etc. It's about what works for you, suits your eye and pocket.

When i got my clubs i looked to get wedges very similar to my clubs

The ATV's were about but felt different hence why i went for the ZTP's

If i was to change my irons then i would possibly look at new wedges also

This is my thinking too, wedges that are similar to the G20s, hence the iWedges. Having a blades wedge scares me a bit when faced with a full swing, in my mind is 'thinsville'. Eyeing up the Ping Eye 2 XG Wedge... Please excuse the terrible pun

My wedges have never matched my irons in recent times. Always gone for bladed style wedges, even though every iron set I've owned have been cavity backs.

That said, the only reason I've got the 588's is because I won them. I'ver really been wedge shopping so to speak.

Ive got nike irons 4-PW, then Cleveland 588 RTX wedges 48/52/56.

they look different, but I quite like that to be honest. I tried a few different wedges and the 588's felt better than the Vokeys, and importantly gave me distance gaps that I'm comfortable with.

i used to be OCD about matching models and makes, now i dont care. Whatever works best, so i go from Rbladez PW to 3 vokey wedges.

Bought my wedges because they were cheap, as with the majority of my clubs, price is always a factor for me I like a good deal

Plus I good like how they look, although if I were to get them again I'd get them both in the dull chrome finish as I'm starting to dislike the raw finish on my 56 as it rusts up (seems to be rusting in all the wrong places lol)

I keep toying with the idea of a 60 degree or replacing the 56 with a 58

Vokeys ofr me and have used them for years since matching them to Titleist irons 8 years ago however vokey do offer more options now in the SM5 range than probably anyone else, I'd argue to much options but others may say different.

Yes and yes.

Changed earlier this year and the new wedges definately match better with my irons in terms of the whole bladed look (that's just my superficiality shining through :o) but most importantly feel and workability - is that a word? Much happier than the previous ones which were just too much of a departure. I'll be more careful about this in the future for sure and save myself time and a few quid.

Went to AG today and had a waft with some SM5s, Ping Gorges, Cleveland 588, Mizuno's etc, but ended up walking away with a Benross! Nice bit of offset, big head, friendly looking, right up my street. Half the price of the bigger manufacturers! I thank you. Just need to get hold of a 52', then I'm happy.
