I see that the Irish open has sold out, 110,000 tickets which I believe is the first tour event to sell out completely! If they are looking at some sort of viability then surely this must send a message to the tour that this part of the world has been overlooked for too long, or is the popularity riding on the three major winners coming from the local(ish) area?

Hopefully Portrush stands up infrastructure wise and is a contender for the open at some stage ;)

Players are raving about the atmosphere, and thats on the practise days and for the pro-am, clearly going to be one hell of a tournament, especially if one of the irish can contend

I've never heard of a tournament selling out, it's a vast area and most Opens have been very busy but you can always get in and the Open is bigger than this. It's certainly sending a message to the European Tour guys

Just beat me to the post Chris!

Fantastic stuff, hope they could get the Open over there soon too as a reward.

Maybe take away one of the English venues for it's place too....:smirk:

after what was in the papers today, about our marvellous queens not a chance,
how can they dis-respect such a nice person ,dont deserve a europro tour

I am reading as well there were almost 15,000 there today for the pro am and with the free tickets for kids they think over 150,000 might make it for the week!

Im there on Saturday, anyone know where the best viewing spots are ???

At the 11th green you get to see drives on 12 and the 15th green. Best bet though is to follow a less popular group. The 3, 9, 7 & 12 green is a good area as well and also near facilities.

I absolutely agree but don't tell Deke

cant waitg for this! going fri, sat and sun. a lot of golfers are saying it feels like a major! weather is meant to improve tomorrow aswell!

I'm watching it at the moment - really big crowds for Thursday morning.

Very impressive and definitely a signal to the R&A - the demand's certainly there for the Open. Here's hoping for a successful tournament.

Watched a bit today, superb to see huge crowds adding a great atmosphere.

What price is entry? If ever there was a note for the R&A to look at the place again it's being made this week.

Course looks non to shabby either!

had a good first day. headed home after the play was delayed. will be back down tomoro for more of the same. very good scoring today. i think those pins will be tricky tomoro! alot of under par shooting going on.
