The Grinder Of Pars (Semi Crocked)
Hi Trig and welcome to the fold.
I think most of us use the PW that comes with the set. Loft can be anywhere between 42 and 47 degrees - at this point don't get too hung up on loft as the distance you hit it is more important.
With standard SW's around 56 degrees, the gap wedge comes in. But here you need to know the distance gap between the PW and SW to be able to plug the gap properly. Loft gives an idea but its distance that is the key. An even spread of lofts gives you a good chance though.
SO lets say you plump for the JPX's. PW is 44 degrees. YOu could, therefore, get a 48, 52, 56 combo or 48, 54, 60 depending on preference. As you're a newbie(ish) I'd go with the former. A decent spread of lofts should give you a decent spread of distances but make sure.
Vokeys are good. A lot of people swear by them but just as many don't get on with them. Cleveland make good wedges as do Mizuno (you could get MPT-10 or 11's that would go well with the JPX's) and Ping (but you're not old enough yet..!).
Best bet is to try as many different makes as you can, different lofts and bounces - talk to a Pro about bounce and get the right ones for the course you play most regularly.
I have Cleveland CG15's in 50, 54 and 58 lofts. My Mizzy PW is 47 degree so again there's a reasonable spread of lofts. I could go 47, 52, 58 but I like having 4 wedges to give me a choice.
