1st time poster so go easy!

28 based in West Sussex (anyone else in the area?)

Well, been playing since Nov 2009, started having lessons with a decent pro July 2010, made a massive difference Recently got a Handicap of 26 - Based on my last 3 18 holes (Different courses) 118,87,& 104.

Really got the bug over the summer, so looking for an outlet, (Girlfriend is still accepting Golf Widow Status!) as still have a lot to learn but keen to do so.

Looking to upgrade by irons in February 2010 (Subject to Bonus) Will be getting custom fitted. So far torn between Callaway X24 Hots and Mizuno JPX800's.

Anyway enough of intro, Ill start with my first question:

I will be upgrading in Feb, Ive tested a couple of Vokey Wedges and very happy with results. Just wondering what set ups you guys have in terms of Vokey Wedges in comparison to the stock set of irons that come with your iron purchase, ie have you replaced your callaway/Taylormade/Mizuno etc PW and SW with Vokeys or simply purchased a Gap Wedg - I note the Vokey range covers 48-64 with various bounces.

Just interested really - as before Im new!

Cheers in advance!

Welcome Trig. Bit young to be on here, you will have to put up with a lot of old gits. :D

I have two Vokey wedges 52 and 58 both with 8 degree bounce. I use both from bunkers and for chipping/pitching. Our fairways are tight, but they still sit nicely. Too much bounce makes it difficult to chip with , and too little makes bunker play harder.

Cheers Rich,

Maybe Im ahead of my time.

Have started favoring Golf over Football in the last 2 months - 30's are approaching!

Tiger, welcome aboard mate. Pretty new here myself and only 30 so one of the younger generation. I'll pass on a few newbie tips

1) sarcasm seems to run at a high level so take a lot of things with a pinch or two of salt

2) watch out for the trouble makers- don't worry they normally have ping in their signature ;)

welcome

have just switched back to vokeys from cleveland cg12s, have 50,54,58, just felt like i wanted the gaps a touch smaller and have little use for the 60 degree

Can recommend the Mizuno custom fitting at New Malden. No pressure to buy and very thorough. You do need to book in advance from memory.

Hi There and welcome. I’m one of the old gits on here.

I sometimes wonder about new players having too many wedges. No disrespect but I hardly know a player below a 10HC who can get the best from them. How many shots I’ve seen lost with a knifed lob wedge, I’ve lost count.

Vokeys are the biz IMO, tried the other makes now and then but Vokeys are a classic design that will never die. Have a word with your pro about the correct bounce and, if need be, get the lie sorted as well. Oh, keep the V steels, one of the best 3 n 5 woods ever made.

Welcome along. You are right in Smiffy territory so I'd either a) move b) grow a thick skin or c) just feel sorry for the old fella.

There are quite a few from around your way so plenty of opportunites for games next year. The JPX pro are very good clubs. However if you have only been playing a year and still having lessons I'm wondering if it might be worth holding off on the C/F until you have a nice consistent swing.

Welcome to the forum.

As a side point, the Cally rep told me that you can not be custom fit for X24s, they are off the peg only.

As for wedges, I will have to change mine as my idea was to go 50* and 56* but the new irons I am getting the pitch is 46* so I will get 50* and 54*.

Is that because the Razr range is coming out?

He said to me that Cally always bring out "special" items with limited stock, he told me about some dirvers and other bits that they had done in the past. He told me that there were only 5000 sets for the whole of europe, but if that were so I would have thought they were all gone by now and I say some in AG the other day. :D

Edit: Limited Edition were the words I was lookng for now "special"
