Into semis of club scratch champs tomorrow.

Unlucky Rick !

I'm guessing they don't have a "medal" type club champs there ?

Well done for making the final, but sorry you didn't win.

Obviously losing the fiver to me on Friday weighed heavy over the weekend!

Thanks for all the good luck wishes folks...
Well as already reported, I won my semi final in the morning. A great game against a 20 year old long hitter who played off 4 in his earlier days and will probably get down to 1 or 2 now he's come back to the game after a break of a couple of years. a very tight match all the way round but I was never down and closed it out on the 16th......
As in the 1/4 final, my putter was on fire and I holed a mile of putts.

Into the final in the afternoon, and the shock in the other draw was that the firm favourite had been beaten 5&4!! So my opponent was a wily old campaigner who was a former county champion.

Again my putter was the difference and twice I went 2 up after some great birdies before giving them back in consecutive holes each time.
We had a good crowd following us round and were still all square going down 16 where he produced a piece of magic from off the green to get up and down and win the hole going ahead for the first time.

The 17th is a short par 3 and he stuck it to 6 feet and I was on the green but 40 feet away. I got the line right but forgot to hit the putt and it came up 15 feet short!!
I thought the match was going to fizzle out there, but once again the magic stick came to my rescue and I drained the par putt. He missed the birdie so off down the par 5 18th we went.

2 good drives in the middle of the fairway but I knew I had to win the hole so tried to get it close and in doing so pulled my second into the rough. He was in the middle of the fairway and all I could do was hack out. He then gave me a glimmer of a chance when he found the green side bunker. I was now kicking myself for the earlier aggressive approach, as a 5 would have seen us go down the 1st.
As it was, a half in 6 and we shook hands.

I was physically and emotionally drained and the realisation slowly sunk in that I'd missed up on a great chance to get my name on the first ever club championship board by the tiniest of margins.

However, when I look back in time it will be with pride that I managed to put some great rounds together and was involved in an epic battle that gave the crowds a lot of excitement.

At the presentation, the club even had a cake for me, a nice bottle of red and a birthday card signed by all the staff with some lovely comments.

My opponent made a very emotional speech and you could see it clearly meant a lot to him.

A great day that I will look back on with a lot of fond memories.

no wonder your golf's come on so much over the recent period if you can see things this clearly!

you can only do your best - and it sounds like you did exactly that in all aspects of this competition; you may well win it another day

Great effort Rick, sounds like that last hole will bug you for a while but, as they say, hindsight is 20/20 - you had to go for it.

And there's always next year!
