Hi all
Just got my first "smart phone". a Galaxy Ace and have 500mb of internet data allowance per month. What does thais actually mean?????????????? If I connect through my home wifi does it come out of my allowance, and if so why Im paying for it already..and when away from home do wifi hotspots come out of my 500mb allowance..If so what do signs mean that offer "free wifi internet access".

Connecting through wifi is free and will not eat into your 500mb allowance(but some places do require a passcode for you to use their wifi).
I have mine set up to wifi at home and at my business. I rarely use more than 80mb of data a month now.

Your 500mb will only be used when you are not connected to wifi and you are using 3g or 2g to connect to the internet, when you are out and about basically.Every web page you view or any apps/music you buy will be downloaded to your phone and will reduce your 500mb data allowance.Avoid streaming video to your phone when not on wifi (youtube, iplayer, etc) as this really eats up the megabytes! If you need to check how much you have used(hard to predict for the first month) you can call your networks customer service team and ask, some phones can count your mb usage but they have to be reset every month.Hope this helps mate!
