Interesting courses near Brighton

Got a mate who plays of about 25 who has recently moved to peacehaven, he's invited me down this weekend but it's my job to find the course.

Looking for something interesting not overly punishing.

Nb peacehaven course is fully booked all day saturday

With the forcast I have seen of gales and rain I recommend Augusta, Tiger 2012.

As a long time lurker and Brighton resident - I'll take the opportunity to join the Forum and make a few suggestions!

Hassocks - fairly flat and relatively short but an interest mix of parkland with it's fair share of water. Just north of Brighton, not far from the A23.

Singing Hills - similar to Hassocks (also close to the A23) but much more interesting. However, both will probably be sufferings thanks to all the rain so I'd suggest something close to the coast.

Seaford Head - interesting muni and reasonably priced, just along the coast from Peacehaven.

Lewes - drains like a dream. Best described as a tricky if the wind blows but stunning views the whole way round. It would take my vote.

East Brighton as richart suggestions... I can't comment as I've never played it, even though it's less than a mile from home for me!

That area isn't really a golfing mecca but what about Hill Barn(?) the muni in Worthing, heard that is OK.

East Brighton, Lewis, Worthing (Suggest Upper Course), Seaford Blatchington, Littlehampton, all should be playable, a reasonable good test of golf but not too severe. Enjoy.

It would be East Brighton for me, followed by Lewes. Neither are particularly "tough" but East Brighton will definitely be in better condition, despite the bad weather we have had recently. The greens on both will be in super condition as they drain so well.
Seaford (Blatchington) is a nice track, as is Worthing (Upper Course) but the latter will certainly be a tougher test than any of the others.
If you are on a budget, then Seaford Head (Municipal) is good value for money and is usually in fair condition.
On any of those courses, all you've got to hope is that the winds not blowing.

Not sure I agree with all of the above. my view on decent Sussex courses is as follows:

Worthing Lower
West Sussex
Goodwood Downs
Crowborough Beacon
Piltdown
East Sussex National
Copthorne
Royal Ashdown
Devils Dyke
Rye

Depends on your budget and availability. Given that you are coming from Peacehaven, I would suggest that you go for Piltdown. A superb course that isn't too far from where you are and an excellent test.

I played Hill Barn (adjacent to Worthing GC) for the first time last night and I was very impressed. It is certainly the best municipal course I have ever played and better than one of the Worthing courses.

Some excellent holes and it was in superb condition. We teed off at 5.30pm and it was very quiet too although I gather that it can be very busy at the weekends.

Really good course though and for £15 for a twilight round, exceptional value for money.

Highly recommended if you can get there when the weather is good and it isn't too busy.

No comment on wine list or waitresses as I did not see either.

East Brighton is very easy, im practically a beginner having only been playing properly for less than a year and I shot 81 round EB on my first go there. Would recommend to any absolute beginner for somewhere to gain confidence with a low score. The windmill on the 7th hole and the clowns mouth on the 16th are tricky but can be negotiated with skill.
