insurance

I didn't bother for about 6 months of playing. But one day I was on the 14th and there was a group teeing off on the next hole which happens to run parallel with the road on the left. He hooked driver left and I heard an almighty smash. Straight through a nice new vauxhall astra windscreen. Unfortunately this wasn't the first time he had done it either. So after my round I got insurance. 27quid a year is not much for what it covers you for. But of course is completely down to the player, some choose to take it. Others don't, but if you do fall foul of hitting something/someone. It's going to cost you a damn sight more than what your insurance costs you per year!

In general a golfer is liable for damage caused by his ball.

If you take a Driver (or any club) knowing your range and average level of inaccuracy brings property or people within range I reckon your negligent !

So if there is a house 150 yards from the tee and only 30 yards to the right of the fairway, are you saying you can't hit this shot without being negligent? Or is it the club that is liable for setting the course in this way?

Based on this I bought insurance yesterday. Where I play you can't really hit anything, but you can hit someone.

Did you get a referral code? I just signed up via a referral code from a fellow member on here and he gets a shiny new club free! Plus I get a box of srixon ad333 balls :) be nice if someone returned the favour I could do with a wedge :)

Sorry, I didn't follow it that closely to see that there was talk about referral premiums. I was possibly focused on the scare stories.

I was always under the impression that golfers were only liable in scotland for hitting another person not in england however I have insurance myself. I got it on offer for the first year £22.. 3 days later par 3 over water.. 18th hole.. over hit it .. caught it really nice.. didnt see it land.. turned out had smashed someones car window. Glad I had it.. £228 and few hours later window was fixed insurance paid me back.. sorted

I'm about to renew and am shopping around, send me your referral code and you may be getting that wedge!

When buying specialist golf insurance you need to be very clear what you are insured for and what you are not. For example will you be covered if your clubs are stolen from your car, your locker, or if left unattended outside the clubhouse? Is the policy a "new for old" when it comes to replacing clubs or will you just get the current market value for your clubs? Are you covered abroad?

Not all policies are the same and being seduced by a few freebies may not give you the level of cover that suits you best.

Also most home contents insurance policies have a significant level of third party liability insurance and if that's what worries you most then you may not need golf insurance at all.

As always doing your research can save you money and heartache.
