Inconsiderate little ratbag

now that they've lengthened our 17th, the 8th tee has come nicely into range of a pulled drive. In recognition of this they've planted a new arboretum, so in a few years we'll be safe.

it's surprising though how many areas on our course can come under threat from the wayward golfist; with just a modest collection of hooks, pulls and slices you can collect golfers from all over,

Are we saying clubs should do more to protect us when tee area's are close to greens?

Unsightly as they may be, I think there is a case (in certain circumstances) to have netting up by a vunerable teeing area.
I have played quite a few courses where people standing on the next tee are in danger of getting clouted by a mis-hit shot.

so smiffy learn to shout more a bit louder and we wont need that nasty netting stuff

I've never been hit but it does worry me how many near misses experienced so far...

I have however hit someone - I have always been quite happy to bellow FORRRRREE at the top of my voice if ball travelling in slightest vicinity of anyone else, in fact quite enjoy it..

However for some reason on this occasion when I KNEW it was going to hit someone I was playing with I completely clammed up. Just a strange ' I can't believe it's gonna hit him ' feeling.
It smacked him on the calf & he went down like he'd been shot.
Luckily he's a good mate so i told him to get up stop milking it & get on with the game...
Still a good mate but keeps reminding me he owes me one..

I think visable distance markers from the tee's may be a worth while idea. I played deangate @ rochester a few months back and their 9th par 5 was quite deceiving. I am not happy about admitting i come close to hitting someone with my drive, and i even used the course planner as a guide to whether we thought it was safe to go. i think if people are not playing with course planners, they could easily beleive someone is "out of range" and play not realising they are closer than they are and put a player at risk.

I thought protocol was if it was going towards someone you shout as thought the spanish armada is attacking our shores again and your whole village is under threat.

Actually protocol is that you shout fore if the ball is heading at someone or you don't have a clear view of the spot your ball is likely to land. I often find I have to shout fore for playing partners who don't seem to be capable. At the end of the day, if you aren't sure, shout
