At my club we could do with a few more people playing the medal. For Decembers medal they are offering a meal in the restaurant for those who shoot a net 68 and a bowl of soup & roll for those who complete their round.Do any other forumers clubs offer incentives to take part in comps

We get a pretty good turn out for stablefords but only the same old faces for medal rounds particularly in the winter. I like the idea of offering something to entice players out but think that it could be cost prohibitive to do regularly. That said we only have one medal a month from now until March and everything else is stableford (bar a bogey and the winter knockout matchplay) so most events still get well supported.

Is it up to the club to attract players though? They must get enough to cover the cost of engraving the trophy or award and the pro still makes on the ball sweep. If players don't like medal format, I can't see how the mental barrier particularly for higher handicaps of one bad hole = the end of the round can be broken

Golf's a mans game. get out there and face the course and the elements. You shouln't need something to entice you out to lay even at this time of the year.

Must be the southern namby pamby thing coming in ;)

I prefer to consider it the intellectual decision ;)
