Finally won the society matchplay title after 14 years trying and losing three finals.
Came back from 3 down after seven to lead 3 up with five to play finally closed the match out on the 17th. Golf was less than sparkling.
GAme ended with me needing a six foot putt to half the hole and take the title, putt was struck a little slow and looked like it would stop short, but a la Tiger at Augusta, the ball took another roll and flopped into the hole.
What a relief. Now to Captains day and a chance of taking the Golfer of the Year tilte as well-odds are against me but i will give it ago.

Congrats.

You say the golf wasn't sparkling, but I bet there were a few grand shots in there somewhere.

And those'll be the ones you're be telling the grandkids all about in a few years time.

I can just imaging you being used as a 'getting the kids down at bedtime' tool.

You can write the script now if you like ;
I was 3 down after 7 - a lesser man would have given up there and then but I looked up to the heavens and saw a sign. It was as if god was saying to me ' Make him beat you with birdies, Don't let him score with poor golf '

So I done away with the sparkling golf, and played a powerful, mental game. I put my driver away and pulled out my 3 wood and slotted an absolute screamer 180 yards down the middle.....

The kids won't make it past the turn before falling asleep :)

Seriously though, great stuff. After 14 attempts you deserve the plaudits.

Craphacker great story. There were a few great shots but not a sparkling 18 holes.

Thanks to all for the congratulations.

I could go on, and on, and on, and on.......

By the time I got to the last putt it'd be longer than Wogan's on Pro Celebrity.

:cool:

( If you ever see me hit a slightly thinned 6 iron approach that gets a lucky bounce and crawls it's way onto the front fringe, it'll be 'translated' post round into a "3/4 punch shot with no follow through to deliberately keep it under the wind, and to minimise the backspin to let the ball release onto the middle of the green to allow an easy 2 putt" ) ;)
