I know this is a team event but I think I would have very mixed emotions. Only playing 2 games and getting convincingly getting beat in both although the singles was closer. So not contributing to the points total but winning the trophy. It must be like being in the winning cup final squad but not getting on the pitch.

That's not how I see it, he played today against one of the worlds best and we aren't going to win every game.

It will have been a good experience for him. If he qualifies or gets picked again he has more idea what to expect, sometimes that can be invaluable.

Not all his fault he got gubbed with Poulter. And he took on their 'star' player and pushed him all the way, keeping the point off the board for as long as he could. That's solid team work. Not everyone gets to score the last minute winner. :)

I reckon he'll be pleased to be on the winning team.

Be worse if he played and lost twice on a losing side! So I'm sure he'll be delighted to be part of a victorious European team!

He should feel proud that he has represented his country as part of a winning European Ryder Cup team. Whilst he may not have won a point (and I feel he was unlucky to have got an out of form Poulter as a partner) I am sure he has contributed to team morale off the course.

This is what Roy Kean said after missing the 1999 Champions League Final,,

Well done the Team.

He was part of a winning team so he should share in the glory. If you take the logic that he shouldn't feel he contributed then the USA team will all commit hari-kari !!

I think he'll be disappointed from a personal perspective but he'll take a lot from being part of a winning team. You can't all be the hero. He did well enough in the singles today and should he get in next time will have a better understanding about the hype and pressure

bet he feels like the bloke who used to play for my previous clubs h/c team, never won a game all season but got picked week in week out, when i asked the captain why he kept picking him when better players were chomping at the bit to play he replied "because he owns the mini bus we use "lets face it he was chosen because he was Scottish and as no Scottish player had been good enough to get on the team it had to be done, form is temporary class lasts for ever, good job it didnt matter in the end,but how will he be remembered the bloke who never won a point.

Bound to be disappointed but has to be happy the team won and he played a good match against the star of the USA team.

I think this is so important. If he had collapsed to a 7/6 defeat and thereby enabling USA to get a Red win on the boards early that could have changed the way things went. The fact that he battled well against a brilliant player - holding defeat at bay until there was a Blue win on the board - was important in it's own right.

Bit harsh. Should McGinley have chosen an out of form Luke Donald as well as an out of form Ian Poulter? Gallagher came into the Ryder Cup in good form and he was also the best player on the European tour not in as an automatic qualifier. He earned his place. It didn't work out but he should be better for it next time. I am pleased he was chosen.

Interesting that both sets of Captains picks came up with the same points contributions. They cancelled each other out.

Exactly what I thought.

he didnt EARN his place he was chosen over more experienced players who have been there before and proven themselves if he hadn't been from Scotland would he have been chosen, lets see next time if his game stands up to the rigours of better compwetion over the next few years.
