Hi everyone, I am a lady and am 4'11, i have been looking at some golf clubs in the shops and the ladies ones seem to be too big too long, so when i picked up a particular junior one it fitted perfectly, but is it suitable for me?as they r designed for juniors. I am 18 if that helps.

All comments appreciated!

Thanks

O dear can i hear the custard spitting thread coming on again.

I would suspect that the size maybe ok but the flex of the shaft may not

Welcome to the forum by the way.

Where have you been looking at these clubs? Best thing is to just try the clubs out at your local American golf.

I was thinking of that, but they can be quite pricey and i was just looking for a starter set, i went to JJB and they had two womens sets, and no one there to help. I know that american golf would offer better service!

Thats ok, they shouldnt pressure you into buying anything and to be honest you could still proably find something in your price range (what is it by the way?)

You should go in and explain to them what your after, what your concerns are and tell them your price range. See what they come up with. Then come back on here and seek more advice after you have an idea!

In my opinion, stay away from JJB, they only sell the likes of fast irons and slazenger. The no frills of the golfing equipment. But it depends on how often you want to play and how serious you are about your golf!

hana.....I tried my daughters clubs the other day....designed for 8-10 y.o. No prob's using them.....(I had to demonstrate at her lesson!!)
I would suggest you look at the last size of junior available. Masters make individual irons and woods up to about 5 ft......£10 an iron and £15 a wood.

The lads at my club play Ping Moxie clubs which are designed for up to 4'11", but I know plenty that use them up to 5'3"-ish. They are a great buy too....you get similar to Ping G5 clubs for 1/4 price. cracking.

Welcome to you, I hope you get sorted.

Welcome to the forum. I can't really help on the shorter front as I have just had to get myself longer than standard clubs but going to an American golf or somewhere similar and asking for their advice is definitely your best bet. As Tony says they will almost certainly have something within your price range, and judgin from others responses you will most probably end up with junior clubs anyway so the proce will be cheap. Good luck.

AG will have the Jack Nicklaus junior sets....the biggest (also available in pink!) is on the shopping list when my girl get's tall enough, unless she adopts blue (Ping) as an acceptable colour!!!

hana, welcome

I would try directgolf, americangolf or nevada bobs (depending on where you are) avoid JJB, Sports World etc like the plague, they only sell the gear - they have no idea what it is.

I was in my local DG recently and they happened to be fitting a guy smaller than you, tailoring full size adult clubs to suit. They do have some good deals on at the moment so it may not prove that much different in price.

Welcome. Another one to the female possy. Have you considered talking to your club pro. He should be able to give you some independant advice and would probably be able to help in the technical aspects like shaft flex etc.

From my experience AG will be able to advise and you do get the option to try as many brands as they have in stock so you will have a wide choice of clubs. The thing I have found you need to be aware of is that you do need to speak to someone like the store manager who has the knowledge of equipment and specifications and not let some junior shop assistant try and help. Yours is quite a specialised problem (not sure that is really a fair description but its late and can't think of another word) and so you need specific advice.

Good luck. Keep us posted

welcome hanalav123
Glad you have joined us.
I too am a fairly short lady and American golf (Northampton) were brilliant, I tried lots of different clubs, the junior ones were alittle to short and the ladies alittle to long so in the end, I chose my clubs (Callaway X18's) and they had them adjusted for me, took about 2 weeks for them to come, I tried them again, perfect.
Would highly recommend American golf.
Good luck and let us know how you get on.
Barb :)

My wife is not that tall and a set of standard MD Blackhawks fitted her perfectly. They were certainly shorter than her previous RAM starter set.

Yeah they sell no frills stuff like Ping, Taylor Made etc.

Have never seen any in the 3 JJB stores near me or even in the one i used to work in as a teen. My mate is head of golf at a new JJB and he even said all the stuff the get in is a load of cobble!

Only named stuff i have seen is maybe gloves and balls and the occasional bags but this isnt in the topic!

I agree TonyN, all the gear they do have is several seasons out of date or utter garbage. You will also have to put up with some spotty teenager who does not know his arse from elbow about golf trying to sell you F.A.S.T irons.

almost always HTL, but my mate is a pro working head of the golf in our local JJB so it aint that bad. If a serious golfer comes in, he will tell em straight, Get out while you can, otherwise its normally mums and dads for birthday presents or teenagers thinking about taking up the sport with little to spend!

I remember when i used to work at JJB the assistant head of golf was a young lad 18 i think he was at the time, really thought he knew the lot! (sure he caddied for tiger woods the day after he was knighted for saving lives at an orphanage)
He came out with a classic after a short conversation about my swing and wrist break. ''no wrists in golf mate, no wrists in golf'' o how i laughed and avoided him at all costs!

hi Hanna
Welcome to the forum - looks like you've had plenty of advice on the clubs. I too have Callaways but I assume they are a bit pricey for you right now. I'm sure there will be a starter set to suit - seem to remember A Golf having some good deals on cheaper ladies clubs around the time I bought mine. You may get even more choice in juniors.
As an aside, I have some v. nice Mizuno woods which are ladies' clubs but came second hand from a junior - obviously 'cross-dressing' is not uncommon!
Good luck!

so the guy who works in jjb as head of golf is a qualified pro, who hass passed all his exams? Surely not. Why would a qualified pro work in a multi purpose sports store as opposed to a golf focused environment.

because he has been working/teaching in switzerland/ playing the swiss tour for last 7 years and just moved home, decided he didnt want to work in golf anymore and just play it for fun instead. Saving up to put him self on a course and seen it as an opportunity to put food on the table in the mean time! He was also a callaway staff player untill feb!

Fair enoguh Tony if he wanted a break from the game I understand it completely. I'm sure you can understand my inquisition though, I don't know many pros who work in sports shops! Anyway you should try and persuade him to get back into the game, working in jjb is a waste of his talent.
