51???? Did he enter his score wrong ???
Sadly not.

I thought this sort of score was a teething problem for the new system.Board comp at ours today. I played okay, not great, not awful, but made some schoolboy errors in my 32 points.
Played off the back tees, as tough as it gets with lush rough and bone hard greens. Current leader (and he won’t be overtaken) received 31 shots off 95%, and is sitting pretty with a ludicrous 51 points. A whopping ten points clear of second place.
Hmmmmm.
Textbook for a non qualification! As my wife would put it, I had the grump on today. I knew in advance it would be strokeplay, least favourite format, but the comp was mistakenly set up for white tees, an extra 400yds. Add in the greens were tined 2 days ago and this was my first qualifier of the year. Putting was a nonsense. So many putts between my group missed from 2ft and in, more 3 putts than 2. As has been said before, all that was missing was the windmill and the clowns face.
The rest of my game was a mixed bag. I haven't found a consistent swing yet this season. I'm patchy, some very good, some very poor. I'm not looking for perfection, just better consistency. I don't think I'm far off but I'm certainly not there yet.
As per @Junior above, I need to go out and practice. Smart practice![]()

Obviously not.
It’s a numbers game.I think the fella is relatively new to the game, and I suppose the argument will be levelled that his handicap isn’t keeping pace with his improvement. Regardless, scores like this shouldn’t happen, and there was more than a little grumpiness in the bar at lunchtime.
A lot of our low single figure members won’t enter Stableford board comps, and this sort of score will do nothing to encourage them that handicap events are a level playing field.
Completely agree. Should have made it a fun team comp or similar. Definitely a non qualifier. Now everyone who played has a stupid score on their listsTextbook for a non qualification!
But common sense is lacking in some clubs imo.
Another wasted round tee to green was really good and then chance after chance wasted with the putter. Tee time delayed by 45 mins due to fog so didn’t even have time for a beer afterwards.
If it’s a board Comp why don’t the Club put a handicap limit on it?Board comp at ours today. I played okay, not great, not awful, but made some schoolboy errors in my 32 points.

Our Board Comps vary from either Max 18 or Max 24 PH, those above are still welcome to enter, they just can’t win the “Board” element of the Comp.
We have the same situation, but apart from an initial grumble it works well.Because we have a number of senior members who are full seven day members whose entirely legitimate handicaps are higher than the figures you quote. It is argued, with some merit in my view, that it is unfair on those who play and submit cards regularly if they have to play off a lower handicap.
I tend to agree with that view. Why exclude the several golfers with legitimate handicaps from a chance of competing just to prevent this sort of ridiculous scoring?
We have the same situation, but apart from an initial grumble it works well.
The sad fact is the guy who scored 51pts today probably had a legitimate handicap and unless the Club does something then the grumbling will continue.
Some other things Clubs have done that has been mentioned on here are:
You need 12 months membership before you can enter a Board Comp.
You need 20 Cards.
You must of played at least 3 Comps in the previous 12 months etc.
I do sympathise with your situation, I just find it a bit unfair when people moan about these scores without the Club trying to do something to limit/prevent them.
Good news.We do have restrictions on board comp entry, and as you and I are exchanging comments, news has been circulated amongst our group that, whilst this guy was allowed to play this morning, he is not eligible to win as he has not played the requisite number of comps (3) during the last twelve months.
So a degree of common sense has prevailed.
Not for him!Good news.![]()
He probably knew he couldn’t win. He was probably sat in the Clubhouse listening to the whinging and laughing to himself. Not for him!![]()
