I played today and..(Rolling) -originally created by JohnnyDee

Just played the front 9 this morning tee’d off at 8am, clubs were back in the car and headed home by 935am 😍.

Hit the ball well again with driver and irons, but still Couldn’t stop a ball on the green, it’s making scoring a nightmare. I was +4 gross and I putted well, you just can’t get near a hole even with lag putts when you think they’re going to stop they pick up speed and go a good 6-8ft past. I’m Starting to realise how @Orikoru feels on his course 😂

They’re going to see some big scores in this weekends comp, the greens need watering because they’re almost unplayable for everyone, low guys can’t get a wedge to stop so, short hitters have no chance of stopping the ball with longer clubs, then chipping back on you have a such a small margin for error.

Definitely a game of 2 halves today...
Starting on the 10th I rattled off 20 points by the turn, in control, swinging well.....
And then the 2nd 9 happened....5 x 1 point holes interspersed with 4 x 2 pointers
Either couldn't get ball close enough to the hole or couldn't hole the putts when I did get it close enough..
Stupid game

I played yesterday on our 9 hole course which had had the greens tined the day before.
Worst game in many years, so many missed putts and could not get rid of the pushes, 3 balls lost.

I was not the only one, only 3 players out of 15 broke 30 points with the best being just 33 and I was not the worst in my group with just 25 points.

Played Gaudet Luce today. Place was rock hard and bouncy. Greens were true and ran well, although I think the Space Shuttle landing on them wouldn't have left a pitch mark!😁

Course us a bit fiddly for my taste to be honest. But I bet it's better on second sight.

Played with some good guys, so a fun day. Another course ticked off

4BBB matchplay today....not a knockout but a Seniors friendly match away at The Essex. My partner was getting 14 shots and our opponents 5 and 13.

Lost the first to a nett birdie before halving the next 5 holes, won 2 on the bounce to go 1 up after 8, extended the lead to 2up on the 12th before giving the 13th back. Won 15 to put us 2 up and closed the game out on 17 to win 3&1.

Looking at the scores after the game and the players we played, it appears that the two team captains used the handicap indexes at the time of agreeing the pairings last week. In the interim period, both of our opponents played qualifying comps that reduced their index...resulting effect of using their old handicaps was that our opponents actually got 1 and 2 shots more than they should have!!

As a team though we gave our opponents a bit of a going over, winning 7.5 - 0.5

It's always a problem for Greenkeepers in cold dry spell which we've got at the moment, more heat forecast for the weekend so hopefully soon your greens will become more receptive.
Article above explains it quite well

We have been talking bout this at our place. The weather is odd to say the least. A few years ago in April the course was horrendous re wet and muddy. The course was 3 months ago was horrendous re mud. On Tuesday on our 15th the wind was blowing down our 15th which it hardly ever does. I creamed a drive and had a PW into the green. I have never ever had a PW into the green. The run on the fairways at this time of the year is unbelievable. Oh I put my wedge into a greenside bunker 🫣

So after Tuesdays heroics, the front nine today after 15 points scored was purgatory. The high light being a once in a calendar year birdie on the par 3 7th. Next hole a drive into a tree, second shot hit the same tree. Third shot through the back of the green.4th shot I chipped in.😳 I was flippin livid. It looked like I had never played before.
Back nine, I birdied the 10th 😳🫣 I have never had two birdies in a calendar month never mind same round. Next hole, the hardest par four on the course. Rammel drive, even rammeler second, third was a nine iron to three foot. Another three points. Next is a par three. Half decent tee shot 10 yards to the right of green. Pw to Dink it to the pin which is at the back. The chip shot only went and dropped. Three flippin birdies in one round 😳😳😳. I have never had three in a calendar year. Suffice to say I shot 23 points to win £13. I went round in 41 shots on the back nine. 😳 I have never done that before.
I think the Samaritans are worried about me. I have not called them for a month. Happy days.

A medal today for me, I had a bit of a strange start, hit the green on the par 3 1st, first putt was a little long, missed the return and went to back hand the 1 inch putt and missed it so ended up with a 5 after 4 putting. a nice 3rd to the 2nd bounced through the green and resulted in a double bogey, and on the 3rd after being 20 yards short on the par 5 i n3, chipped long again and then 3 putted for a triple so ended up 6 over after 3 when it should have been a lot better, steadied up after that, and played pretty well, just one bad shot on the 10th and a nasty lie in the rough on the 17th, but i had 5 pars over the 12 holes and finished up 4 over my handicap annoyingly I was losing one of my best scores so I expect a 0.5 increase in my handicap

Played okay this morning, but the huge plus was the course. New fairway mower doing a fantastic job, and after a little more work last week the greens were cut and ironed first thing.

So the course looks absolutely mint. Best I’ve seen it for a couple of years if I’m honest.

Intended to play 9 holes on my own this morning, ended up being invited to join 2 guys on the 1st tee and put in a GP card as I need to get the number of cards up to qualify for this for board comps as per our club rules. Hit the ball so well today and getting to grips with the firmness of the greens, also switched back to using a blade(Anser style) putter and conventional putting grip with an open stance like I used to put as kid pure feel an no technique.

Weather was wonderful, really pleased with how I played, some seriously naughty pins, played with 2 really nice blokes who’ve invited me for a knock Monday and to join them in next week’s midweek scramble.

Got humped 7 and 6 in my singles knockout. My opponent played great and I made a few mistakes. Games not there at the minute. Need to figure out what the practice thing is everyone is talking about.

As my wife would put it, I had the grump on today. I knew in advance it would be strokeplay, least favourite format, but the comp was mistakenly set up for white tees, an extra 400yds. Add in the greens were tined 2 days ago and this was my first qualifier of the year. Putting was a nonsense. So many putts between my group missed from 2ft and in, more 3 putts than 2. As has been said before, all that was missing was the windmill and the clowns face 🤬.

The rest of my game was a mixed bag. I haven't found a consistent swing yet this season. I'm patchy, some very good, some very poor. I'm not looking for perfection, just better consistency. I don't think I'm far off but I'm certainly not there yet.

As per @Junior above, I need to go out and practice. Smart practice 🤔

Ind Stab today, started off really well and had 20pts after 9, 6 more points through 10-12 and facing a Par 3 next.

Worst shot of the day and OB😂 and nil points

Managed to get 5 points in next 2 holes and then completely messed up the closing 3 holes for just 2 points and a final tally of 33 points.

Need to remember I’m not good enough to pull of hero shots on demand and stop chasing scores.

Good company, good craic and weather was OK. 🏌🏻‍♂️

Board comp at ours today. I played okay, not great, not awful, but made some schoolboy errors in my 32 points.

Played off the back tees, as tough as it gets with lush rough and bone hard greens. Current leader (and he won’t be overtaken) received 31 shots off 95%, and is sitting pretty with a ludicrous 51 points. A whopping ten points clear of second place.

Hmmmmm.

I played today.
Greens had been hollowed tined.

Many a putt through the air never made to the hole either in length or direction.

I signed up for GP card having forgotten about the probable state of the greens.

Maybe he'll get a cut? Does sound fishy.
