Titleist is one brand I've never owned a single club from.
It's a brand I'm slightly intimidated by, more than slightly. My image is that they are a lower handicappers club and I'm not a good enough ball striker to use them. Golf clubs are too expensive to take a major gamble on so Titleist passes me by.

Yeah I think that might be something in the back of my mind too. Even in my fittings he never handed me a Titleist driver or irons, it's normally Ping, Callaway, Cobra, maybe TaylorMade.

A priori, I wouldn't let myself get intimidated. My whole life, things have always been different for me : Things that no one else could handle worked for me right away—and vice versa. That has taught me to try everything with an open mind first. 🤷‍♀️

Yeah, but I imagine a Titleist with one small sweet spot, 1mm in diameter 😱. I need more help than that 🤣

I have the 425 SFT, and I can hit it 30 yards right without any issue!
But then I bet Fraser didn't have a -12.9° path at times! 😲🤣
Watching you tee it up so close to the right hand tee marker and still miss the thing is a wonderous sight to behold....honestly there's a handful of people in the world who can do that with your swing...🤣🤣😋

Skins yesterday....20 of us playing. I played OK for 36 points....two bad holes at the end of the back 9....the 8th where I pulled my 9-wood approach 20yds left of the green...in rough but not a terrible lie...all i needed to do was pop the ball up and let it catch the downslope and run out to the flag...popped the ball up lovely and landed it in a patch of rough, less than a foot from where I'd wanted it to land, where it stayed. Another go put it to 5 feet but missed the putt and ended with a double bogey.

On the 9th we have OOB just 5 yards left of the fairway for the entire 330yds, the fairway cambers left to right, funneling balls into bunkers and trees on the right...its possibly the worst hole on the course as it often punishes good shots. I took my usual brave aim down the left edge and nutted the sweetest 3 wood ever...with a touch of draw instead of my usual baby fade...plonked it right into the boundary hedge which itself is out of bounds. Reloaded and eventually walked off with a "moral par" (i.e. a double bogey six!!). 4 shots dropped in two holes.

Rest of the round was very solid for a gross 76 and 36 points. Didnt win a single skin and the two nearest the pins that i put my name on were both beaten by folks in the groups behind.

8/13 fairways
11/18 GIRs
33 putts
2 birdies
10 pars
4 bogeys
2 doubles

Greens were not great...very bristly and spiky....noticeably different than the previous evening when I played (and also shot 76)...but have to keep reminding ourselves that it is still only early April and due to the mixture of grasses things are always a little uneven at this time of year.

Course could really do with some rain though. :ROFLMAO:

Struggling.

Second comp of the season after winter league and with back tees, no mats etc, just can't get back into it. Ball striking has improved since last week, but everything else was shabby.

Busy work week ahead, with a corporate golf day at Worsley Marriot, awards bash in London, with a night over and Rick Astley on Friday, I will leave next weekends comp and regroup.

Our new SIs came in to force this week and today was my first stableford game using them Looks like a bit more effort has gone in to setting them than last time it was done (pre WHS). We still have the 4 hardest holes on the course as SIs 1-4 just 1 and 2 have switched holes , likewise 3 and 4. As said earlier this month does not really affect me now my handicap has gone to 18.

My game is getting a bit more consistent, 35 points today, same ball all the away round with no dramas. Highlight was a a 50 yard chip and run down the hole for a birdie. Just one 3 putt green.

Never had any irons or wedges of theirs, but at this point I wonder if I'll ever again have a driver or wood in my bag that isn't Ping.
I kind of like having a full bag of whatever OEM.
My first proper bag was a Titleist bag - TSi3 - 915 hybrids, 718 AP2s, and Vokey wedges - then went to the T100.
Then I went full Taylormade with stealth HD driver, stealth plus woods and hybrids with p770 with mg3's.
Now, full Ping bag, and it seems I started with some harder clubs with the Titleist and gradually made my way to making things easier with the Pings. I wouldn't change my Ping woods or hybrids, but would buy some t100S irons again, though, as I really liked those irons

Went to play today but guys coming off after nine hole’s complaining it took 2.30 hrs for front nine.

Then a pp pulled out with 30 mins to tee time.
So with a bit of an ear infection we decided a two ball wasn’t good .
Glad I did went the pharmacy on way home now on antibiotics for a week.

First day today of a golf trip. Richmond GC, very enjoyable course. Wind was up, some unpleasant rain at times.

Drove very well, irons not bad. Chipping still poor, which is worrying for me. Putting, everything missed to the right 🤬. Greens were slow, really struggled with that.

Big pluses , I won closest to the pin on both holes that we designated 😊.

Game was halved, we should have won 🙄. Onwards to tomorrow, Catterick.

My first ever greenkeepers revenge. Scramble. With four older chappies. Three drives each. I had seven, and we needed them. Lord the tees were miles back on some. We dropped two shots on one hole . Putting up a slope and watching in horror was the ball ended up further away than we started. Six attempts before we got one to stop. Came in third. Three off the afternoon winners. Yup there was two start times. Feeling good and smashing the ball great off the tee.

Played in the family pairs yesterday with Jamie at a very windy Dewsbury 41 points in the betterball, think we won 1st prize for best front nine. I actually enjoy playing in the wind, I seem to be able to control the ball pretty well with some punchy shots. Back out today on our smaller Pine Valley course with my brother - we've got a Scotland trip coming up in 4 weeks and he hasn't swung a club since July last year, so blowing the cobwebs off literally.

First ever medal at the new club.Indont know where to start, I can’t even claimed to have played 💩, it wasn’t even that good. As someone who’s usually a strong iron and wedge player it completely deserted me today! Couldn’t even explain what went wrong!

1st hole: tee shot left me 60yards to the green, knifed a lob wedge straight through!

2nd hole: dead centre of the fairway of the tee, toe shanked an iron into the trees!

3rd: Toe shank fatted one into the trees nice triple bogey on a par 3!

I was +6 after 3 holes. Then hit a peach of a driver at 4th, kicked right and went OOB! Played a provisional same drive absolutely nailed it, so now I’m playing 4 from middle of the fairway, took an iron snapped hooked into the trees!

I’d like to say it got better, our 6th is 309yds from the Whites. I was 35yards from the Pin with my Tee shot, walked off with a 6 and that was lucky 😳.

Continued in that vein all the way round. Absolutely striping my driver and woods. A Soon as I put an iron in my hand my game crumbled. The last 3 holes summed my play up well, 16th missed a 8” putt for par, 17th absolutely nailed my drive and then stabbed my way up the hole lucky to get a bogie. 18th again great drive right into the corner of the dog leg, only an 8 iron to the green which I caught fat into the bunker and took 2 to get out that! I managed a grand total of 2 pars all round and the worst round of golf I’ve played in decades.

Currently sat dead last and an absolute deserved increase coming my way. I was atrocious and looked like I’d never played before! I hate golf 😂

Too late for a refund? 🤣
At least things can only get better.
And you did say you wanted your driving to improve, the golfing gods have duly obliged but taken the rest of your game to compensate.

Even I wouldn’t have given me a refund today. So many shots I got my moneys worth 😂

The gods have duly obliged there mate. My driving has been so much better since the change of clubs, 3 times today I was within 60yard or less of the pin on par 4s with my drives yet the best I managed was bogey! Our 14th hole a 180yd par 3, hit a 6 iron and I managed to miss the green 40yards left 😳😂

Greensomes comp today, played with my mate Ben that I play all these pairs things with. Receiving 9 shots and it's medal format.

We started on the 5th, and played pretty steady with just pars and bogeys for the most part. Poor putting on the 9th got us a bogey when we should have made par, but nice pars on the tough 11th and 12th made up for that.

18th was the first real bum note as I sliced right and Ben hooked his to the left. I kinda of half-shanked his ball from a poor lie, then he bladed it through the back of the green. Surprisingly I played a worldy chip over the bunker onto a downslope with 60° which held the green, and we escaped with a two-putt double bogey. The only double we had all day.

I sank a lovely 6-footer for par on the 1st, but we gave that back three-stabbing the 2nd. We finished on a real high on the 4th though. Normally a tough hole and with the left-to-right I was just hitting a slightly gripped down punchy drive that I've been working on for windy conditions. Not only did it stay in play, it rode the wind slightly then caught the downslope and ran out to 285 yards! Unreal distance for me. That left my mate a wedge in, where he hit at the left side of the green and let the wind carry it towards the pin - worked an absolute treat and left me a one-foot tap-in for birdie!

It was a gross 76 then in the end, which is 8 over so a one-under 67 was our net result. In the end the winners were net 60 so we would have needed a level par gross round to beat that - in a scramble we could manage it but no chance in greensomes! Either way, we had a really enjoyable day, playing with an old boy in the other pairing that we have played with a few times before who's excellent company.

On a personal level, I struggled with a couple of drives leaking right early on, but my putting was much better than recent weeks (other than a steep downhiller I left 5 feet short as I whiffed it), and my chipping was very good for once, so that was encouraging. There's nothing like a team/pairs event to refresh the mind sometimes.

Edit: 15th out of 35 teams, but I had a little flick through and I don't think any team actually beat our gross score of 76, so that's not too bad.
