Nice result mate.
Do you think the bloke was honestly slow and always plays that speed or was it gamesmanship trying to put you off.
Cheers mate.

I think he’s genuinely slow, first time I’ve ever met him and after the round even when my PP had a word with him. He categorically stated he didn’t think he was slow, he thought we were rushing and not taking enough care over our shots. Even when pointing out we’d lost 2 holes so early in the round he claimed that’s because the group in front were rushing.

Several shots he’d walk on the centre of the green to read the breaks even though he was pitching from 20-30 yards off of the putting surface. My personal favourite Moment was on our 5th hole a long par 3, we were both pin high left with down hill chips, nothing to go over just a slope away to us with the pin about 35ft. Everything is in front of you and you can see it all, he watched me chip first to about 6ft which was good considering where the pin was. He’d watched it all the break , speed everything, only then did he walk to centre of the green read the line from behind the hole, side of the slope and behind his ball. He then thinned it straight through the other side into a bunker. He then repeated the process for the bunker shot and never even got the ball out of the sand 😂

It’s shame as everyone I’ve met so far are really decent people this bloke was just oblivious to anyone outside of his own world.

Sounds like one to wait till he puts his name on the tee sheet and make sure your out before.
If you think all other members of your group is rushing and the 4 (I presume) in front are all rushing then maybe you would think that’s a ratio of 7:1 and maybe I’m the problem.

You will probably get him in the singles now 🤣

Absolutely one to avoid yet he is actually in my half of the drawer in the singles so that would be Sod’s Law 😂.

I've played in windier conditions....but not in a Medal....
Early starters got the best of the weather a d a good few decent s ores came in..
We weren't teeing off until 1.27 by which time the wind was starting to blow and a few mists of precipitation could be felt.
My drive on the first was decent but one of the others had to hit 4 before he got one in play - we found the 2nd one so he was only 3 off the tee..
But ti doesn't put you in a good frame of mind.
The wind got up and the rain came down and the scores went up.
Ellesborough is a tricky course, especially if you get out of position....with 35mph winds I was rarely IN position.
Actually I didn't play badly and I'm quite pleased I broke 90.
89 in those conditions is worth about a 78/79 on a normal day.
Last Tuesday I hit smooth 5 iron on our 16th and airmailed the green
Hit a 5 iron today, similar distance,.....20 yards short. :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

Hour on the range then 14 holes with my boy. From nowhere (last 2 months?) he's now suddenly striking it better than I can, and a similar distance! I've promised him he won't beat me till he leaves school, but I might have to eat humble pie on that one by the end of the summer!!! Loving the competition and his determination. Even better is I think he genuinely likes being out there with his old man, and I love it.

As for the weather.... windy doesn't begin to explain it! And on the 17th we then had a sudden hailstorm which turned the course white - the hailstones were coming down sideways and hurt as they hit you! At least the nights are lighter, hey.... :)

Played 18 yesterday in a 4BBB competition. Top 5 scores qualify to then take it in turns to play against the pro and the captain at matchplay. Team with best result get taken somewhere nice for a game or to play in a pro-am. We came 4th with 40 points. Usually that would be nowhere near good enough.

36 holes today in a scratch friendly against another local club. We use this as a warm up for the upcoming season. Morning 4somes was 2-2 and afternoon singles was 4-4. I managed 1.5 points on the day. Absolutely brutal freezing cold wind on both days. Played ok but could have easily not bothered in the afternoon. Now in bed ball bagged and not looking forward to going to work tomorrow 😢

Well......that was a waste of time.....
Chased a ball around...I'd hesitate to call it golf...
Looks like the swing has joined my touch and feel on an extended holiday to Ibiza again....
Could be a bad week for the handicap with some good scores dropping off to be replaced by garbage....
I played better yesterday in the rain and high winds....
Stupid game.

What was the PCC?

Some days the upper limit of 3 really should be thrown out. I remember one comp last May the lowest gross on the day was 81 (+9), think I shot 86 that day, the PCC just can't cope with days like that.

I'm so grateful that I'm not the only one going through this. . . ! 🙏

Texas Scramble today for the Captain’s Drive In. Stiff wind and a feels like -2C at tee off, woolly hat and mittens made an unexpected appearance.

We started on 18 and I hit it so far off the toe and blocked it miles right that I’m pretty sure I cleared the woods completely and sent it out onto the road.

After that I played really well and as a team we putted lights out. We ended up with a gross -13, team was getting 0.5 shots and I think we are in the lead after the first wave of teams (2 shotgun starts).

I hit what I thought was a great shot into 15, nice controlled 7 iron punch into the wind to about 10 feet. Get up the green to see that @rudebhoy had stiffed his to 46cm.
Well done @Springveldt for taking the win, some way to announce your return to the club 😀

Aye, pleasant surprise. Best putting I've seen from a scramble team I've been on, we must have holed over 200 feet of putts. Didn't miss anything that was a good chance and stole about 4 birdies with putts over 20 feet. Just one of those days when everything goes in, and I think the handicapping rules definitely helped as well. Wouldn't have expected to win with that score if it was the standard scramble handicaps even with the tricky conditions.

Seems to be a thing now. Last 2 scrambles I’ve played in have been 10% of combined handicaps, rather than the normal sliding scale which the low handicappers used to moan about 😂

Last one I played in was like 25,20,15 and 10% or something like that. When we found out it was 10% combined and the group behind us were "only" getting 6 shots we thought why might have a chance of getting in the top 3 if we holed some putts.

PCC was +1.....my feeling is the old CSS would have been +3 or even reductions only but that's only a guess..
One of the 1 index guys went out early and shot 1 under gross and won it..
The difference between first thing and 3 was like a Fiesta to a Maserati....

Shot 83 off the full White tees, was windy today. Some shots looked like they hit a curtain and just went sideways. Overall though I was happy, a few jammy putts , the greens were so much better than a local club I played last week.
I am just monitoring the seniors competition that occurred today to determine whether the course was playing difficult. The best score is 34pts and they were playing off the yellows. Which gives a very small advantage but my index suggests it’s 2 shots easier than white .. I can only see 2-3 holes where it would feel like a benefit though, the other tee positions are all within 10 yards of each other.
I was happy with my striking and my driver was well behaved. My chipping which is a major area of work is improving, which is positive. I just struggled with distance more judgement about the club to use. I will say more the wind than anything else. But it was exceptionally windy today.

Played 1st Round match of club's main summer HC singles KO. Drawn against my best mate. He played well to his handicap; I didn't. He won. Disappointed as was hoping to do well in this comp as I've never won it. No matter - pleased for how my mate played as he said it's the best he's played for a good while - indeed he's been struggling off his (now lowest ever) handicap. Anyway. That'd golf. 🤷‍♂️

OK, I'm now officially confused.....
Went out early to try and find what's left of my game, played the back 9...

1 under gross.
What the actual............ 😟😲

I played on Saturday whilst away for a long weekend with my bro and his wife.
We played a course called Axe Cliff just outside Axmouth.
I must say, playing on the top of a cliff, it was probably the windiest game of golf I've ever had.
It got to the point that whenever I was taking a shot I had to lie the bag and trolley on it's side to avoid it being blown over or blown away.
It was a very hilly course with countless blind shots aimed at markers, probably not an issue if you knew the course!
Not a course I'd want to be a member of, but all the staff were extremely friendly and oh so welcoming.
Even the trolley hire was free of charge!
Had a really fun day and managed to beat my bro 2 up.
I sank the longest putt of my life, about 30yds down a steep bank to a sunken green, it was a thing of beauty.
My bro also hit the putt of his life, measured at 61yds, yup, 61yds ....................... he hit it to about a foot!
He putted from that far out because getting the ball airborne had so much jeopardy that it had to be avoided where possible.
Into the wind, a really well hit drive would struggle to go 100yds.
I highly recommend this course, if ever you find yourself in the area, as some of the views were absolutely breathtaking.
