I played today and..(Rolling) -originally created by JohnnyDee

You say tough, was it good though? Would you play it again or was once enough?

It's a possible for me at some point in the future so interested to hear views
It's a quality course. I played it last year for the first time. It's only a few miles from me. Greens were beautiful. Course is tough but offers chances to score. They are doing loads of work on it, I follow on FB just out of interest, this ensures quality for the members when the season starts.

Tee time at 8:00 a.m. this morning, -1.5°C, but sunny. 🥶
On the first hole, playing directly into the sun, could only track the ball with the help of my playing partners - thank goodness!
And if it hadn’t been for that 🤬 3rd hole, I would have shot under 60 on the 9 holes...!
On the other hand, I had a few (!) really good shots, including with the driver (154 m, fairway!) and even with the 3-wood (130 m, dead straight, fairway!). :giggle:
Like I said: Aside from the 3rd hole, I’m really happy (😱) today ! ;)(y)

Played Prestbury today in a charity event. Four ball with best two to count.

I found it one of the toughest corses I've played, but the weather held out, albeit really cold and fairly windy.

Had to get away straight away, so no idea if we picked up any prizes, or in fact, our final score.
You should try playing your medals there in summer when the greens are 12 on the stimp 😳

It is a top 100 course, but no I didn't like it, so wouldn't go unless a corporate invite and part of a bigger event.

Coming out of winter, so heavy underfoot and active construction, teeing mats etc - maybe I am being harsh, but it just didn't do it for me.
You’re spot on. Lots of work and investment over the winter and it’s not quite ready yet.

Come back in Summer and the condition of the place will be amazing.

Entered Stableford comp today. Had one of the most frustrating first nines of all time. Started par, par, blob, blob. Then a bogey, two more pars, a third blob and another par! Striking the ball pretty well but the chipping and putting were poor.

I don't know if every club has this or if it's just ours, but there's no gradual change of pace on the greens - you'll go from deathly slow to absolutely rapid in the space of two weeks, and that's what's happened now. And every year it throws me for a loop for a few weeks. 14 points at half way.

Second nine was a tad more sensible but not massively better scoring wise. Three pars, five bogeys and one double brought a further 15 points. The wind was absolutely ridiculous by this point which made it hard work.

I played today and the first thing I had to do before going to the tee was go back to the locker and find another layer for my top and put waterproof trousers on . The windchill factor must have been about 5 degrees.

I managed 14 holes and was very disappointed to have to give up, 28 points for 14 holes far better than anybody else in our four ball, winning score in the swindle 37 points.

Greens were in excellent condition for the time of year.

The day after a lesson today, always fun 😀. Anyway, it was fun, went better than hoped for.

Yesterday was a preseason refresher really but it went well. All about the turn, and then the follow through. New pro to me, some new ideas of how to put this into play.

I found this relatively easy to do with my irons, much harder with longer clubs. I dipped around 12-14 but then managed to find concentration again. Short game, which was appalling last week, was suddenly way better. Good touch around the greens.

Best of all was putting. Due to the quick nature of the greens I decided to try putting just past the centre of the putter, nearer the toe. Big difference. Much better pace control, much straighter putts. The putts I normally push, went straight 😳. I liked that 😄.

I won out of our 3 with 34 points. It was cold and very windy so I was very pleased with that. Captains day next week so this was a good warm up for it.

Texas Scramble today for the Captain’s Drive In. Stiff wind and a feels like -2C at tee off, woolly hat and mittens made an unexpected appearance.

We started on 18 and I hit it so far off the toe and blocked it miles right that I’m pretty sure I cleared the woods completely and sent it out onto the road.

After that I played really well and as a team we putted lights out. We ended up with a gross -13, team was getting 0.5 shots and I think we are in the lead after the first wave of teams (2 shotgun starts).

I hit what I thought was a great shot into 15, nice controlled 7 iron punch into the wind to about 10 feet. Get up the green to see that @rudebhoy had stiffed his to 46cm.

Maybe you should try aiming out of the toe with your putter for pace control on fast greens 😉

Tough going today, particularly as I was full of cold. If it hadn’t been a team comp, I would have pulled out.

It was bitterly cold and a horrible wind. None of us played well, only one birdie thanks to that tee shot on 15.

Hope you hold on to win the comp, the teams going out this afternoon had a big advantage weather wise.

New members day today at Goswick, Bacon roll and a brew on arrival, then front nine (actually eight) as new 7th not open until wednesday.

Back to clubhouse for sanwiches and chips. Briefed on future plans and instructions on IG and entering scores etc for those who’d never used any golf systems.

Freezing cold, wind gusting to 20-25mph.

Very enjoyable day and nice welcome from the Club, there was around 20 of us in total, mixture of Full and Country members, one guy lives 10 min from course another travelled up from Hull.

One lady was the mother of Garrick Porteous she’d decided after spending so much time on golf courses to take up golf herself.

Weirdly that wasn't the problem. When the greens are suddenly quicker I just massively overthink it. So I'll grossly underhit some as the speed gets in my head. Or I'll miss a two-footer that breaks outside the hole, then the next two-footer I aim outside the hole and it goes straight past. Does my head in. 😂

First round of clubs 4BBB matchplay today. One of the opposition has to be the slowest guy I’ve ever played against and absolutely clueless when it came to course and match etiquette, it was so bad we lost 2 holes on the group in front by the time we reached the 4th Green!

Had a mare at the start, 1st hole, is a short par 4 that I usually hit an iron for position. But for some unknown reason I took the driver despite knowing the shot doesn’t suit me on that hole. Managed to rip it straight through the fairway and nestled literally in a divot laden root behind a tree! Penalty drop and still had to play out sideways opening with a double bogey!! Similar happened at the 2nd hit a lovely drive dead centre of the fairway only to find the ball nestled at the back of a divot again. So bogey there as well 😂

After that things went pretty well hit the ball so well with the both the Driver and Mini, finding fairways is an absolute novelty for me. But dropped another shot at the long Par 3, 10th just an absolutely crap 5 wood high and right. But followed that up with back to back tap in birdies at 11 & 12, followed up with a nice par at the S.I 1, 13th to give us 3 straight holes in a row. Then Pars all the way in to finish 2 over par which considering the start I’m happy with especially off the tee it feels so nice to not have to wonder where I’ll be playing the next shot from.

We won the game 3&2, so onto the next round and my PP had a quiet word with Mr Slow about his behaviour on course after the round as he was taking no notice at us or his PP doing our best to speed him up.

Nice result mate.
Do you think the bloke was honestly slow and always plays that speed or was it gamesmanship trying to put you off.
