I played today and..(Rolling) -originally created by JohnnyDee

I played 9 holes today in beautiful weather, and if I hadn’t racked up a bunch of penalty strokes on the 3rd (bunker, ball unplayable 3 times! 🤬) and 9th hole (drive in the water hazard 🤷🏽), it might have been a new “best round” (for me at least) !

@Lucifer MorningStar : Goldfish works ! 👍

Sometimes … ! 😖
Great effort in the words of a wise man 60% of the time it works every time 😉

You were close to a best ever round. Now forget about it , enjoy the good and next time go again 🤙

New Driver and Mini driver arrived this morning so wanted to give them a whirl so had a quick 9 holes before the rain with a couple of lads from the roll up, we played a game of Chairman not done that in years quite a fun 3 ball format.

All I can say is I now know what it’s like to hit Fairways. The 3/4” shorter but heavier shafts and the midsize grips was game changing for me at address. I instantly felt comfortable rather than clueless, swing weight being heavier I could feel where the club was and thicker grip stop me flipping at it. It was absolutely night and day for me, the Mini is also an absolute weapon used it on 2 holes for position . I know it’s only 1 round but the difference has already made me happy.

Made such a difference to scoring as well not having to hit from the bundu or over trees, 7 GIR, 5 pars, 2 birdies, 2 bogies. annoying one on the last due to a weak approach leaving me short sided to shoot a Level Par 35.

My new bag arrived so I got out for a quick nine holes. Original plan was to use the new 5 wood off the tees to give it a work-out, but it was 35mph gusts as it turned out so I figured 5 wood off the tees wasn't really the play. Just tried to play my normal game and work on chipping and putting routine (whether I use the line, dot or whatever).

Chipping was still crap. It's always good on the 3rd attempt though.

Putting - no matter whether I try and use a line or a dot for alignment, it just puts me off. Like I'm suddenly focussing on trying to hit a mark on the ball instead of focussing on hitting the target (the hole). Frustrating but I think I'll have to abandon this line on the ball malarky and just try and be better at alignment without any visual help.

15 points for nine holes in the end. Doubled the tricky 11th and 12th but in strong winds that's pretty standard. I did end up hitting the 5 wood on the last three holes, and it's still just so easy to hit straight. Still weirdly looks closed at address, but if I try and manually square it up I seem to hit it worse than if I just leave it alone and swing, so, meh. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Oh, how I envy you ! 🥺

My drives (still) go almost as far to the right as they do straight ahead…! 😩

Dunstanburgh today for Seniors Away Day.

Strong winds and it chucked it down for the back 9, but I managed to play well, 35 points to win the comp and get my name on a trophy.

Course was in great condition, greens were very fast but true. A fantastic day out despite the weather.
It was horrible today and there's no protection up there. That's cracking scoring 👍.

Don’t worry I’ve spent so long not knowing what direction they’d go today was a relevation. I’d been holding off on fitting so long but for the way I was able to get comfy over the ball made such a difference.

You’ll get there it’s just an annoying game that takes time but it keeps us all coming back for more.

Yesterday…me and three mates decided to do a relatively nearby awayday…and ended up at Badgemore Park near Henley-on-Thames. I’ll be kind…it’s late March, and it was cold, windy and overcast…with a touch of rain towards the end - so nowhere is going to be looking it’s best…never mind those playing it not being at their best, and the back nine had a few interesting and quirky holes. But I’m afraid that overall it wasn’t it very good condition at all - almost certainly will be better in summer.

The clubhouse and eating and drinking facilities were fine (it served drought 1664 0.0% so big 👍 from me for that) and the girls serving us were nice and friendly. We got a good rate for our green fee so didn’t spend that much, but tbh they do need to do a good bit of work on the course presentation…layout was OK I suppose…but that is me trying to be kind and positive putting aside my dislike for internal OoB…and there seemed to be a good amount of that.

And the golf? Had a total shambles of a front nine but managed the back nine in two over gross - probably as my interest picked up as the holes got a bit more interesting.

That strikes me as a perfect example of something “being damned with faint praise”

You might well think that and I couldn’t possibly comment further…suffice to say that every golf club has its challenges and constraints, and every golf club has members who care.

ETA..I've read reviews of the place on Golfshake and have to say that it does get good reviews...maybe it was just the time of year and the weather.

Perhaps also we do not appreciate the quality of our own track - certainly not as much as we should or how visitors find us. So much in respect of golf courses and how we experience them will be relative to our norm and expectations.

Played like a sick dog today..
No rhythm, little feel, stone cold putter...
Still came away with 34 points though.....don't ask me how...
Nothing was firing at all
The greens have been top dressed so that didn't help my putting but even so..
Probably a 0.4 increase with a decent card dropping out....going between 6 and 7 like a yo-yo at the moment.

Cracking course - loved it when we played there last year, despite it blowing an absolute gale.

19 points front nine, nineteen points back nine. 20 points won front, 20 points won back 😳

Highlight of the round, I nobbed/ hit one off the toe and put it on an adjoining fairway. Third shot smacked a 7 iron which flew into a Hawthorne hedge 40 yards away with an almighty whack. I thought “ where’s that gone” next thing it flew straight back towards me and ended up 20 yards behind me. Am laughing about it now but flippin eck I was swearing at the time.

Played Prestbury today in a charity event. Four ball with best two to count.

I found it one of the toughest corses I've played, but the weather held out, albeit really cold and fairly windy.

Had to get away straight away, so no idea if we picked up any prizes, or in fact, our final score.

You say tough, was it good though? Would you play it again or was once enough?

It's a possible for me at some point in the future so interested to hear views

It is a top 100 course, but no I didn't like it, so wouldn't go unless a corporate invite and part of a bigger event.

Coming out of winter, so heavy underfoot and active construction, teeing mats etc - maybe I am being harsh, but it just didn't do it for me.

Yesterday was our first competition of the new season, rather annoyingly we were on temporary greens because " we were told to put temporaries on so we can get the course in the best possible condition for the open men's competition on Saturday"
Which begs the question, why make the first comp of the year on temp greens 🤬
