I played today and..(Rolling) -originally created by JohnnyDee

First round since the 1st week of November today and out with Mrs M at a local P&P she likes.

Now I wish I hadn’t bothered 😒! From the very first shot , every-time I stood over a shot longer than a 9iron I couldn’t even guess which direction it was going. It was just as easily going low left as it was high right. .

On the 5th fairway Mrs M gave me golfing advice for the first time ever “don’t get so annoyed at yourself, stop thinking and just whack it”. Ironically the next shot I just whacked it and flushed a 6 iron into the wind to 10feet. Thought I’ve got this next so next hole a short par 4, just whacked a 4iron for safety straight right into the bundu 😒! It was like that all the way round, if it wasn’t for my wedge game it would’ve been a cricket score. For someone that’s always been a feel player and never really thought about technique when playing, I had so many swing thoughts going on, I was simply confusing myself.

However, on a brighter note, Mrs M had her best round ever. She hit some absolute cracking tee shots, short game is improving though putting is still the one area she is struggling with. But the highlights were at the 5th hole she hit her first par 5 in 3 shots, 200yrd drive and then 2 consecutive 5 hybrids to middle of the green which she cheered and 2 putts later her first Par on a Par 5. The Par3 8th hole she hit her 5 hybrid landing on the fringe at the front and rolls out to 15feet just missed her birdie but a tap in Par and first time she had 2 pars in the Same round. At least she gave me something to smile about on the course today so it was still worth being there to see that ☺️.

Back at the parkland course yesterday for a best 2 from 4 comp with all scores counting on the par 3’s which we didn’t play well. Doesn’t help when one of the team loses a shot on 2 of them. Think we ended up with 85 points, nobody played that well and we didn’t hole a single putt between us all day.

Winners had 106 and also won a prize for their 40 points on the par 3’s (there are 5 of them) which is a great score considering the par 3’s can be tricky.

Was nice to be back and the steak pie and pint offer for £10 afterwards was excellent.

Supposed to be our 1st Medal today but the course isn't really fit for a medal yet, plus we had the electric motorbike brigade tear up the 1st green on Friday night so with hole 1 on a temp, we slotted a Stabelford in from February.

Played solid enough, 37 holes over 17 holes so pretty happy with that given the wind and rain.

Didn’t think you’d be back until 1st April?

I played ok but my team mates struggled unfortunately. The par 3s killed us, don’t think we had more than 2 scoring on any of them.

Steak pie was lovely right enough.

Paid in full a couple of weeks ago but have still been playing at Newbiggin. Booked in for the Texas scramble on the 28th as well. I’ll keep an eye out for you if you are playing in it.

Par 3’s were tough for us as well, didn’t score 8 on any of them. Think our highest was 7 and lowest was 4. I played them well, was only 1 over for the 5 of them. Was surprised to see the winners averaging 8 on them with indexes between 16 and 26 on their team.

Hope the white tees are back for the Texas scramble.
