I played today and..(Rolling) -originally created by JohnnyDee

Range again today, as before started with the shanks! Just cannot get my normal swing into position at the top without strain on the shoulder and causing pain that goes right through it and down my right pec, as a result I don’t complete the swing which then causes me to move toward the ball causing massive heel strikes and shanks. Even with the driver it’s causing me to hit it so far near the heel it’s barely on the club face at all!

So went back to wedges hitting them in a more stacked manner, no weight shift to the right and more of a downward turn or “tilt of the left shoulder some lovely crisp strikes and worked up through the bag just continuing that feel and with a more Fleetwood style follow through which wasn’t intentional just how the swing pattern naturally turned out. Must say it definitely needs work and refining but was getting some really good strikes more often than not with a little push draw which is my preference anyway. Worked up to the driver and was a little inconsistent but trying to adjust set up on that is a very different feel, but when I got it right the flight was a nice strong one.

So maybe I need to go down that rabbit hole of a complete change to everything I’m used to of being a feel player with a natural swing and have a mini rebuild with a style I always ridiculed 🤦. Not ideal especially as it’s a new season and first game at the new club this weekend but I want to play pain free and for a long time rather than not playing at all. So down the rabbit hole further tonight on YouTube and range Friday to see what I can do.

Another day, another 35 points, another 79....
A bit different this time though...began with 2 very poor bogeys but then settled into it a bit.
4 more on that 9 to turn 6 over and then....
8 pars and an extremely irritating double on the 2nd 9.
The game just kicked in apart from the 3rd last hole where I had a 25 yard chip from the fairway and managed to move it all of 3 inches....not sure how...
And, as I've dropped another good score from my 20, I'm on the rise again.....probably 6.8 in the morning....

We played in the South Shields seniors open today. If you have played it, then you will know how exposed it is up there, and the Pro says it was gusting at 50mph; I believe him.

The good news was that the rain was pretty light for the majority of the round, although the wind actually made it sting your face at times. However, as we left the 18th green, the heavens opened. A quick dash to the car park followed by a quick dash to the clubhouse left us all looking as if we had played 18 holes in a tropical rainstorm.

One of our playing partners popped into the pro shop, and he reckons we have won.............with 34 points. It was particularly grim.

I’m an impatient man after going down the rabbit hole last night and bagging a cheeky afternoon off. I went home and took Mrs M to the range tonight as she wants to play Sunday.

So started putting some S&T (I know that’s a golfing obscenity to some ) into practice this evening after the recent issues of trying to swing pain free. It certainly will take some getting used to and needed to make the relevant adjustments, but hit some really good shots, ball speeds and flight were as good if not better than normal. Feels weird not swinging my natural swing and doing different moves, but the most important thing is I was able to hit 75 balls absolutely pain free and no niggles afterwards.

Mrs M had a lot of fun laughing at me doing weird drills, but more than that she hit some great shots and is really enjoying it even when she hits crappy ones. Plus it’s nice having that time together.

I go to my version of the stack and tilt when I start hitting too many fat shots.....just keeps things simple keeping your weight well forward. After yesterdays bad round.....likely going to use it more again tomorrow.

Day off today for a round with the wife - her first since November.

We went to Airlinks in Hounslow. It was very windy and surprisingly cold so I couldn't buy a par on the front nine. With four layers on and a howling gale I couldn't hit any of the greens. At least I got plenty of chipping practice in - which was surprisingly decent actually. But eight bogeys and a double was my front nine return. Last time I played here I only hit driver 3 times as it's a short course, but after 3 holes today I got the hump and decided I was going to smash driver on every par 4. 😂

Back nine was an improvement. Got my first par of the day on the 10th, and followed that by parring the S.I.1 11th. Birdie 2 on the 13th was nice. On the 14th the wind killed me again, my drive just went 90 degrees right and was never seen again. But managed two more pars on 16 & 17 and ended up with a 5 over back nine.

Gross 83, not sure how many points that is since I never saw anything that told me how many shots I was getting - Hole19 suggested it was only 6 which would put me on 27 points. Oh well!

Wife did ok for having not played in months, being ill and dealing with the conditions - 115 which I think is only ten higher than the best she got on this course.

cold & windy, damp greens & muddy fairways, the epitome of winter golf, decent front 9, bad back 9 shot 104 was nice to get out there and play golf with some old golf buddies, so I had fun, and I've decided I no longer need a driver as I am hitting my 3 wood straighter and further than my driver. So, time to collect all my random bits of golf equipment and sell it off to gc4c

I've decided that I've been spoilt by my current club...
Even the wettest, softest parts of it are firmer than the better bits of Parkland courses around here.
Played at Burnham Beeches with the Society today...nice course and I enjoyed it (apart from 1 hole that really doesn't fit with he rest of the course)
Played exceedingly averagely and stumbled to 27 points but I was amazed at how wet a d soft the course was...same at West Berks a couple of weeks ago.
Played OK, just couldn't get the ball in the hole enough..apart from the 16th where I holed from nigh on 40 feet for a birdie...
Just didn't get my approaches lose enough or first putt/chips close enough...
Still, it didn't rain and I beat Fragger - and I'm still comfortable ;)

Went out for a round at my place as I have a "new" putter £15 off e bay. I also swapped the shaft of my new driver over to the one I had on my last driver. Smashed the ball with the driver so was chuffed with that. But the main thing was the putter. It's amazing. I was two over for 9, in a gale! I was chucking balls down on greens to practice putting (crumbs don't tell anyone). The ball went sooooooooooooo straight. My nightmare distance is about 30cm. I drop so many shots from this distance. Not today. The putter head stays straight and therefore does the ball. Add in the 60 deg wedge thats just a joy, I'm looking forward to this season!!!!
Gave up after 10. I was FREEZING !!!!!!!
