I played today and..(Rolling) -originally created by JohnnyDee

Second round today and had 31 points, short game was very ordinary.

Did check the scores in the Friday 4bbb, 51 points won, I wonder why I don't enter these any more, would need to shoot course record or have a partner on 36 handicap who play like a 18 handicapper.

Saturday was Greensomes with the other half. Ended with 37 points for a 6th placed finished and a 2 to share some prize money between us.

Sunday was the last day for the winter knockout deadline - Played in a light drizzle and won 5&3 then the heavy rain came in and the other chap decided at that point to walk in and save getting soaked.

Seniors Christmas Meeting yesterday. 24 teams of four playing two from four stableford, with individual stableford comp running alongside (yes I know…inconsistent formats). Anyway. My team’s score found us nowhere - well a long way from the winning 98 pts 🙄.

But I had a decent individual 1 over PH of 6, and as a result found my HI drop by 0.1. When asked about my handicap I tend to quote my HI (now 6.0), but it’s nice that I can also say that off our purple tees that sees my PH back down to 5 - and that that’s my lowest ever handicap. Going to be tough getting it to 4…I certainly don't have the consistency for that at the moment…I've got the game but not the consistency - but we’ll see.

Apart from the wow  winning team score - the individual was won with 42pts which is not excessive (in my eyes anyway - even though I can't get near that at the moment) especially given a field of 96 with only three SFs playing - and a Scottish mate of mine I've mentored through the academy into full membership lost out on countback...pleasing and very pleased for him.

Plus...teams of four playing individual stableford - must've taken 5+ hrs! Nope - average was about 4hrs 20mins...and that is decent.

Anyway - retirement can improve your handicap - you just have to work at it 👍😀

Agree that 42 is a very good day for someone, but not that unusual in a big field.
98 though (best two from four) - blimey! That's averaging nearly 5½ pts per hole!
Was the individual winner in the winning team?

When you are a mid to low single handicap you are not an asset, so it's not surprising that most do not play in these events.

That is not the case at my club.
The split seems more to be those who regularly play in comps and those who mainly play social golf. The players who regularly play in comps tend to play in all of them . They have a normal range of handicaps from very low to probably mid late 20’s, they play in all the comps irrespective of format although there are far more singles strokeplay than others, but they all play in scrambles, team comps, 4BB and even the annual 3 clubs and a putter and reverse course comp.

I was playing the backstop 1,2 or occasionally 3 pointer. I needed my three teammates to do the heavy lifting. I knew it wasn't going to be great when we walked off the 1st green with 1 pt...and it was mine

And just to make things better...one of my three was a 76 yr old lad who doesn't play competitive golf (he didn't know what CH and PH on his individual card meant); my 2nd had recently had a lesson and from what he was trying to do it was clear he hadn't taken any of it properly on board or practiced it; and the 3rd was an 85 yr old lad who, just as my #2, doesn't play any competitive golf and was fresh out of a bout of sciatica with it still lurking in his back. But I had an enjoyable chat with them as we went round.

Storm bram took its toll, flippin It was brutal and wet and windy.

It’s not a golfing term but am knackered.

Society Xmas game and dinner at the lovely Huntercombe Golf Club.

We were incredibly lucky with the weather, only got slightly damp, quite windy as expected, but general view was that we dodged a bullet.

Food and ambience was first rate
While the golf was not too bad, given the conditions 👍

In OZ a 4bbb is just you and a partner......don't know why they don't call it a 2bbb, so 48-51 points is way out of my range.

Agree. Four-ball betterball is an absolutely terrible name. The "four-ball" part is completely irrelevant. A pair could play with a marker.
Yeah, even the 'betterball' part is ambiguous, if you didn't know better you might think that was akin to a scramble sort of scenario. Because you take the best ball every time don't you? It's better score really.

It should just be called a Pairs Competition. Agree that 4BBB is just silly.
Yep. Petition to rename 4BBB to "best score pairs". 😄

I will sign your petition, it’s also what I often hear 4ball match play called when it’s a pairs match.
