I played today and..(Rolling) -originally created by JohnnyDee

Very odd round today. Front nine, couldn't swing the club well at all. It felt clunky and uncomfortable. Somehow I managed to scramble the ball around, putting was tight and I came out with 19 points 😳. No idea how that happened.

Back nine, I remembered how to swing the club, much more enjoyable. Shaved so many 5-6ft putts, annoying that none dropped but heck, get the approach closer 😄. Picked up 18 more points, 37 in total. Happy with that.

Cold day but minimal wind made a massive difference. Very enjoyable morning.

Decent round this morning. Nice weather, MetOffice had it as feels like -1C which is a lot warmer than the last few weekends and the wind was probably only blowing 20mph. Wind did pick up the last few holes though, had to hit a 6 iron into the 135 yard par 3 17th. Tried out the new to me TSR3 driver and it was pretty positive. Hit it well and found a lot of fairways, did top one on 16 but that was all me trying out a new swing thought. Won't be trying that thought again.

As for the doubles match we got hammered 4&3. Since it's the winter course which is much shorter, it's doubles and the other 3 guys are all scratch or better I don't get any shots to make it more competitive. It's worked the other 3 weeks but today not so much as the other team were probably 6 under between them, not much we could do about it.

Weird warm up before playing today
Irons were fine but driver needed a different grip to stop hooking it

Went with the change grip for first three holes them reverted to normal for the rest of the round

Hit it well through the bag but scored poorly , bogey golf was the norm, not enough pars

Course closed tomorrow as precaution for tropical storm (too cautious imo) so that's annoying but the rain is much needed

The dizzying heights of 26 points today after a whopping 19 last week. Towards the back end of the round I finally remembered how to hit an iron. The secret? Just swing the club naturally instead of doing what feels like it probably looks good

Just need to stop my massive driver slice that's developed from out of nowhere now and I'll be ok again.

Also made back to back birdies for what I think is the first time ever - the first was on a par 3, where I won nearest the pin (and three of the four of us sank the birdie putts) and the second was after a 3 wood to 5 feet from 230y on our long dogleg hole. 3w, 3w, putt. Easy game!

Played yesterday...last minute call from a buddy.
Due to the heavy overnight rain we were carry only but I thought I needed to get out.
Grabbed a butty from the halfway house and teed off about 12.15
Not a great pace but we almost kept moving...another very steady 9 of 1 over.
Onto the back 9 and we let a single join up with us - good job we did as we caught a three ball on the 12th and waited on every shot from there...
Plus it started to rain
Plus all the standing about played hell with my joints - the last 7 holes took nearly 2 hours and I was a physical wreck by the end..
Getting out of the car when I got home was a trial....stopped keeping score after about 14 holes as I couldn't really swing properly..
Felt about 90 when I got up this morning......
Might venture out after lunch tomorrow but might just wait until Monday morning...trolleys are back on.
I hate carrying...

Hit a couple of irons in the nets before my round, and blood started pouring out of a knuckle on my right hand. Turns out I had rubbed a bit hitting 100 balls on Thursday night, and a couple of hits today just took the skin off. Put a plaster on it for my round but it was quite offputting.

Starting on the back nine I made a mess of the 11th and 12th - and my recently great putting deserted me so I got a few three putts early on with the greens being soft and slow. I did settle in from the 15th though. Awful blob on the 2nd hole after duffing a couple of chips from an absolutely sodden muddy lie - but four straight pars after that, and another one on the 8th saw me get in the 30s for points with 31. Quite happy with that on very damp, muddy course - with a plastered finger and messing about with the weights in my driver as well. 😂 87 gross, not too bad.

The biggest plus was my driving. Really focusing on the takeaway/backswing not being picked up and outside the line, and it worked really well - I hit some crackers. Green shoots of hope.

Won our winter comp match today, 4&3 and played some really decent golf.

Course management is essential for me and accepted at least one club up on most shots, laying up where required and putting was spot on.

Wet underfoot and a few temp greens made it hard going, but a real decent dry bit chilly day.

9 holes today, totally impacted by ridiculously slow play .. 2 players in front wearing not suitable attire, waddling around like penguins with active haemorrhoids .. taking multiple shots that moved them another 20 paces forward .. so on the fourth they said we finishing after 6 .. well we were an hour in already ! But I got 7000 steps in a birdie .. I checked them on our booking system, handicap of 54 and the other didn’t have one. This is ridiculous, can they just go back to 36 max, don’t let anyone out on their own with out some sign off from the pro and pair them up with a low HC golfer ? That worked in the old days .. these 2 had no idea about etiquette

Another cracking round for me, had 6 pars on the bounce as well, driving was excellent, I’m really getting through the ball which always helps 😀

First day out of the year yesterday. Had a really good 2 vs 2 match.
Highlights of the round was hitting the pin on the par 3 4th leaving a foot for bird.
Being 2 down with 2 to play. Getting up and down on 17 to take it down the last.
Par 5 18th. Driver, then driver off the bristles on the mat leaving a 30 yard pitch. Got up and down for bird to tie the match. Splendid.

Low lights. Irons a bit hooky. Driver needs work too. 😞

After a morning pondering whether a plane would take off on a treadmill, I played this afternoon in lovely sunshine and a light breeze.

First time out on the course this year I think and felt a bit rusty, but ball striking was solid after focusing on one thing on the range the last few weeks. A few silly bogeys and 3 good birdies left me on 75 gross, so overall pretty happy.

Course pure white with frost when we teed off at 830 in Monthly Stableford this morning. Part frozen greens until they thawed by the turn. Ball pinging , bouncing and skidding through them for the first 7 holes.. Only 20 braved it as bordering farcical conditions and was carry only. Holed a 10 footer on the last to get 32 points and finish first in the field by a shot. ( 5 players had under 20 ) . Course looked great after lunch, had thawed completely, so having the course to ourselves, we played another 9. Roll on next weekend

Plenty of golf for the youth this weekend - 4 man better ball on Saturday, and then he managed 29 holes yesterday.
Meanwhile I went to Willow Valley to play a few holes - the 11th brings us back to the 1st tee/18th green so it's ideal for an afternoon knock - nobody behind me so I played a couple of balls for a few holes. I've become over-reliant on my hybrid and feel it's affecting my strike on my irons, so tried hitting some longer irons instead of the 4h yesterday. Got to the 8th, the winter mat is at the front of the tee box so plays about 165 uphill. Hit a lovely 4 iron with a little draw that pitched on the green and rolled up towards the flag. I knew it would be close, but this was agonisingly close....

Another full revolution and it would have been in. Infact if I'd teed it up 3 inched further forward on the mat, I'd have had a hole in one - oh well, the wait continues... 🤣

Should have stepped on it

I manged to play today, first time in 2 weeks due to weather, don't you just love weather forecasts - yesterday predicted dry all day, this morning rain gone by 10. Actual - rain stopped about 11.30.

Golf pretty much as expected totally consistent with every round for 2 months now, 19 over with too many shots lost to putting.
