I played today and..(Rolling) -originally created by JohnnyDee

How are the t150s going? I pick mine up this week.
Had mine a couple of months now and I love them.

I get a nice high penetrating ball flight with lots of spin. And my toe’y miss still goes a decent distance and holds its line.

Lost Winter K/O match 1 Dn. Messed up and lost 18 which was hugely frustrating, but console myself with fact of 5 birdies in the round - with a 6th escaping me on 17 as CoG of my stopping ball was not quite over the edge of the hole as it rolled to a halt ending inches behind 🙄

Second round since the lesson and swing change.
Good news: driver carry is definitely further than before.
Bad news: all the rest of my game is in the absolute bin.
Good news: birdied the 5th with a superb drive, perfectly judged 65 yard pitch and drained the 6 foot putt.
Bad news: ten double bogeys, yes TEN, plus a blob. Seven of the doubles were on the front nine.

Just painful. I only made two bogeys bizarrely - four pars of which three were on par 3s. Just kept fatting everything mostly. Shot 92 which I was surprised at because it felt worse than that.

I was so annoyed I wanted to play another nine holes, surprisingly both my mates said they were up for it, so we did. Shot 44 on that with only two doubles this time, so a slight improvement, although I did manage two shanks on the 2nd hole on an 80 yard pitch shot. Swings and roundabouts.

So much of me regrets getting a lesson, I just hate the idea of golf being work now. I think I preferred it when it was fun. 🙁

How many range sessions have you had since the lesson?

Those 80 yard shots always get me, I hate them.

Stableford comp today but annoyingly they were playing "clean and drop up to one club length in the rough" which made it a non qualifier.

I had a blinder, driver on song, putts going in from everywhere and got a two.

Even when I looked like blobbing a hole I saved a nett par. In the greenside bunker I left the first one in, blasted the next attempt over the green and into the rough but then chipped in for 5 nett 4 and 2 points.

Finished with a gross 78 and 45 points. 😲

One. I just haven't been able to fit anymore in than that. I always knew it would be a struggle when I don't get much practise time. I just have to try and figure out what went wrong and hope it works better next week. I think I was maybe focusing a lot on the new backswing but forgetting that there's more to it than that - and hanging back on my right leg too much hence fatting it. Just a guess though really.

Walked back nine with my regular partners. Not played for seven weeks due to holiday in Spain over Xmas and New Year, and also to tear in my knee from playing padel.:(

Forgotten how good the sausage rolls are at the halfway hut. Course looked stunning in the winter sun. Greens best I have seen them in winter, and alterations to the course looking good. Bloody knee.
What’s been altered?

All the bunkers have been re-shaped and heather topped. Some bunkers taken away and some more added. Generally they are smaller, and deeper. Fairway bunkers are really penal, and you can only wedge out now. We have new heather mounds which shape some of the holes better. A lot of silver birches have been taken out, which has given some fairways more light.

Biggest change is probably the first, where a big bunker and some new mounds have gone in on the right side of the fairway. The ditch has been filled in on the left and the pond removed. Club wants you to play more down the left, and not send drive into the houses. Does mean more players can hit driver off the tee.

The course looks better and is definitely tougher.

I played again
I sucked again
And if Dando filled out a card I’m sure I lost again.

Looks like the pro has Wednesday night to get this swing working or it’s going straight in the scrap!

On the plus side, what a stunning 11* spring day!

Ditch the swing changes mate.

Really enjoyed the game today

Golf is stupid.

After my flask incident (see random irritations in OOB) and a poor warm up, I swung the club like an axe murderer on Saturday and it felt nothing like the range session Friday or what I am trying to do with my swing change. Somehow got 37 points including 21 on the back and took 1st in the Saturday roll up. Played yesterday and warmed up like a dream impressing an ex pro and several of our low handicappers and even chipping in for fun on the short game area. Go out and get 11 points on the front 9 and in severe danger of coming last and being the Sunday roll up winners "bitch" having to clear the tables and get the drinks in (penalty for the last placed man so everyone really tries to avoid this at all cost). Somehow dug deep (the Karl Morris podcast stuff really helping) and got 21 on the back. Last place was 28 so very pleased with how I found something enough to get it round well enough

What is annoying though is how I can go from a great warm up to playing like a fool and making so many poor swing and unforced mistakes. More so how I can get the swing change working in practice but it is still to often going missing on the course for periods.

You're the only golfer I know who always seems to score brilliantly when playing crap and vice versa.

I have found a way of getting it round ugly. What used to be 25-28 pointers are now 30 somethings and on Saturday it was a swing that wasn't anything like the one I've worked on but the short game (+3.6 shots gained) and putting (4.3 strokes gained) hid a lot of other issues.

I played with a society at Heaton Park yesterday, it is a municipal in Manchester and is pretty hilly, I played it back in November and had no problem with the hills, but yesterday I really struggled, now i don't know whether that was because I haven't been playing much over the last couple of months due to the weather or it is because I am getting older, I choose to think the former but it was an eye opener, I played pretty rubbish too.

Played at Goswick today. Rained and fairly chilly but after hooking round Ladybank all weekend somehow found out how to hit it straighter today. Shot 79 playing in a mini meet, that’s my 4th sub 80 this month 😵. Cracking track, thoroughly enjoyed it.
