I played today and..(Rolling) -originally created by JohnnyDee

Course still shut so I went to my nearest Top Tracer range. Tried to sort out the driver which was awful last week, but still kept slicing it and no idea why. There was also a left to right wind making it look worse so hard to tell really. I thought I'd maybe started aligning the ball too far forward in my stance (and thus cutting across the ball), moved it back a bit but that didn't really make any difference.

Sacked that off and decided to experiment with trying to hit different distances with my 50°. Normally I just hit half swings with different clubs instead. But I managed to hit fairly consistent 40, 50, 70, 85 and 100 yard shots with it which might be useful and a new way to approach my short game.

Course is shut today and email from Golf Manager notifying us that all Winter Comps have been suspended until weather clears up a bit and course has had a chance to recover from the deluge (and the Dec freeze) ongoing since early Nov.

Winter medal at Nairn Dunbar, one under on the front, then 3 birdies on the trot on 10,11 and 12 before making a right horlicks of it went double double which included losing a ball on the easiest hole on the course . Definitely the day to shoot the lights out, a few did. At least I got a two

how’s your hand?

Had to get off early this morning so 2nd group out in the usual stiff wind and a couple of early showers to keep it honest. Really weird scoring though, a real famine or feast day, started double, double par par and it kinda carried on like that ending the round with 9 pars and 7 doubles for an 85/69

33 points today so one of my worst rounds for while.

First out which was good as the 2nd group were 2 holes behind by the 4th and had zero interest in letting anyone play through

Chipping is getting better.

In the bar we got caught by billy bullcrapper - his son has been fitted for titleist stealth irons and a regular stiff 120g driver shaft.

Played ok today, freezing cold 3 degrees and a bitter wind. Solid 77, which I was pleased with all things considered. Lost ball on 18 into the water annoyed me as did the 3 putt bog on 14.

Range again as the course is shut. Been using a random number generator on my I phone, chose between 50 and 225 yards. Aim to carry within 10 yards short or long. I find it a good ball striking challenge going through pre shot routine every shot. I write them down beforehand and write the carry achieved to keep record.

I like that idea, simple in concept but great in terms of skill building

First round of 2023 today, and opened with a 10.... I then played pretty well, only to spoil it with a top off the last tee and a double! I finished +11, +4 for holes 2-17.

Carry only at the moment which limits my time on the course..the knee is improving but I don't want to push it too far..
Aimed to play 9, ended up playing 11 and no after effects..
Started with 2 doubles :ROFLMAO:....just couldn't get comfy over the ball - the billion layers may not have helped...
Got into it on 3,4 and 5 with good pars, but that was it ...plenty of bogeys........
Wasn't a good swing day.....
Rain in the night so probably carry only again...roll on Spring.

Range again on Sunday, still waiting for membership to kick in on 01/03.

Trying to work more on shorter irons as opposed to bashing the driver. Keeping swing thoughts more simple (slow takeaway, aggressive through the ball and keep head down) - have a tendency to come out of the shot too early and not make solid contact..

Well after Thursday's round where I was shanking for England I tried a couple of swing thoughts today (and a different set of irons but don't think that had anything to do with it) and didn't hit one shank. :D

Scored 31 points which I'm happy with in the bitterly cold wind that was blowing.

Swing thoughts for anyone interested were;
Take away with the left arm and not breaking wrists.
At start of downswing make sure my right elbow drops in close to my side.

Meant to play on 1 course this morning early doors, but was closed to it being frozen, but another local course opened up at lunchtime when 'most' of the frost went away with the really sunning morning.
so managed to get a round in, a few temp greens on par 3's, but apart from all the shady parts of the course being like playing on concrete, the majority of the course was really nice.

I have been working on my driving and wood play the last 2 weeks at the range, putting some serious time into it, and today it all came together and I shot 79 (with 61% FIR) so really pleased with some tough challanges with frozen greens. but getting out there playing is a great feeling.
