Frozen course but it was a lovely morning.

Played ok apart from losing 4 balls - every one hit the green but bounced into the trees

Frozen greens today. First two holes double bogeys caused by 60 yards that bounced miles through the back, so that set the scene for the day. Tough day but managed to make seven pars - only 5 bogeys, and the rest of the holes were disasters mostly. Driving was better than last time at least. Putted reasonably well, chipping from just off the greens was good, but anything from 50 to 150 yards trying to the hit the green was an absolute lottery. Ultimately I was happy to break 90 with an 87 for 30 points.

Our 17th has an elevated green with bunkers in front of it, before getting there we were discussing how it would be impossible to hit the green. The greenkeepers had sensibly put a temporary green short of it though, because if anything bounced off the regular green it could easily have gone flying over the fence onto a road. Fast forward to my second shot - I've knifed my wedge, it goes flying past the temp green, hits the edge of the bunker but where's it frozen solid the ball sort of runs around the lip of it, pops out and up onto the green, stopping perfectly in the middle of it. Typical. ?

Glorious day for golf. The sim was out and even though it was only 3°, there wasn’t a breath of wind so it was kite warm.

The course was not to bad, but a bit random. The golf was secondary to being out on the course and laughing about the bounces ?.

County Winter Scratch Match - we won 4 nil , it’s holes up and we won out match 6 up - all a bit of a lottery but at least it wasn’t too cold

Played in the last 16 of our Winter League yesterday. Great fun, but the totally frozen course turned it into a bit of a lottery and we lost at the last.

It’s just a little disappointing, and this was a view shared by pretty much everyone, that after battling through six rounds to make the knockout stages those matches are then allowed to go ahead in conditions which reduce the competition to little more than crazy golf. The committee have set aside a couple of spare weekends in case rounds are lost to the weather, but a rock solid course doesn’t seem to count!

Frozen greens at Hurtmore today, plus fairway green on the 15th/temporary hole for the 16th. Bounces were just bonkers, but managed an 87 (which included a 10 on the par-3 5th ?). Need to work on bunkers! ?

Played Saturday shot an 87 on a frozen course.

Played Sunday in a friendly pairs scratch match and shot an 82 to win 4&2 and grab the bragging rights and the drinks and food after the game
Frozen golf is some what of a lottery and all you have to do is laugh!

Played yesterday on frozen greens, tried to land it short and let it roll onto the green. Must have had one too many Shredded Wheat as I couldn’t miss a green, shame the next shots were from 30 yards behind!

Same here, it was frustrating (yet funny) trying to 'outsmart' the conditions on Saturday, and failing in multiple ways. First hole is 180-ish par 3, all carry. No chance of landing on the green and staying there, so I laid up with 7 iron, pitched it on from there and it still bounced off the back regardless. After doing the same again on the 2nd, by the 4th I thought I'd try the 60 degree from the rough for more height so it won't bounce as far - went straight under the ball since the rough was sodden so left it short in a bunker. On the 11th I had about 80 yards left, I tried to pitch it 60 and land it short, but it still took three hops and ended up through the back. Later on on the 16th I thought sod it, tried to hit a soft 9 iron to land just before the front, accidentally flushed it and saw it fly off the back towards the warm-up nets. The only time I successfully hit a green was on the par 3 third, hit a nice fat 7 iron that landed just in the short right rough and trickled on.

Remember the 10th at my place..the downhill par 3?
There's no way to play it other than pitch on the green...Friday lunchtime I used an old ball, pitched on the green....I think the ball ended up in someone's garden halfway down the hill...

Oh god yeah, I do remember that one - I'd have probably just aimed for the rough long & right and chipped back or something.

:D

Our 16th is well protected by a lake, I thought the only way was to pitch it on the front of the green and hope it only just pinged off the back.... went miles. Playing partner decided to bounce a wedge off the frozen lake and it worked a treat. Crazy golf

Ha, that's awesome. I wish we had a water hole now, I'd have loved trying to hit a skimmer off the ice.

Just been out to play 11 holes..just a bit of fun, you can't take it too seriously....

Unless you're in the 3 ball in front of me...the language every time a bad bounce or a duffed chip....and they were playing for money!
They may as well have picked a random horse in a random race anywhere in the world..there'd be more skill involved....:ROFLMAO:

Played a rapid 18 holes starting at first light. An icy but glorious morning. I pity those who take their golf too seriously to think it's worth the outing.
Took the Mizuno MP-60 irons out after a couple of months using P790s. Buttery!
A couple of comedy long drives with the ball bouncing and rolling even further than in summer.
A couple of comedy chips with frozen wormcasts pinballing the ball around.
