Well, considering how bad the forecast was, that was an OK morning. And indeed, the best I've played for some while. It rained on and off through the morning, but by the time we finished, we still weren't wet - perhaps a little damp around the edges. And had an interesting play on our 8th. Terrible duck hook off the tee, which hit a tree, bounced over the Halfway House and so was playing my second shot some 40 yards left, and 10 yards behind where I started. Quite fortunate that the course was so quiet ... Fortunate also that was the only real cr#p shot of the day.

So frustrating today.

We had only one wet hole which started as we approached the tee, in my rush to get the tee shot off I hit my only bad drive of the day and lost the ball. 3 over on the hole and missed first prize and the trophy by 2 shots.

Greatly debated whether to go out or not as many pulling out as the rain tumbled down…including the other two in my three - but I was retimed to go out with a 5 and 7 handicapper and so thought I might as well as I might benefit from playing with better players.

We got utterly drenched in a monsoon like downpour for about two holes around 2.15…but rest of time weather weather was not too bad…with some drier spells. And I played fine - playing to one over my handicap, including two mostly weather induced doubles and a triple as greens were flooded all over the place and putting a chipping were a bit random.

No matter. Got me a 7th nett and Gross 9th in the field of about 60. A decent gross and small cut in my HI and maybe more if there is a PCC due to the v high scoring.

Silver trophy today, one over on the front 9 in perfect conditions. Wheels came of on 11th, has a 10. Plugged in the front bunker , could not get it out, kept plugging as it rolled down the revetting. Eventually got it out and sank a 20 footer, so it was a good 10. Signed for an 83 gross.
Very poor

Our Charity Day today, wow .......................... the weather!
4BBB with best two scores to count.
We were horrendous and the day was won with 93 points, in this weather!
Rain, rain, wind, strong wind and more rain.
Worst conditions I have ever played in, by a distance.
Many in the afternoon were claxoned off when the lightning arrived and were expecting an hour or so delay before they went back out.
Shout out to all the organisers, helpers and players for toughing it out.

After my lesson yesterday (see I had A Lesson Thread), went out for an early 9 with Little Chubby Bro

Played our back 9 and in recent times, I have been getting 13 or 14 points, which is not very good considering my embarrassingly high handicap.

However, today, working on grip strength (less of) , swing path & releaseing, I managed to cobble together the vast sum of 23 points, which is a bit more like it.
Very much still work in progress, down the range later to start the long embedding process.

Might have also trounced himself soundly in the process, which is even more satisfying.

Somehow we avoided the lightening klaxon even though thunder was rumbling around there wasn’t any. But the downpour between about 2pm and 2:30pm…I’ve never played in rain like that, plus when it was not torrential the wind was blowing it. That said we did have a period of dry before the downpour and finished in the dry.

And a couple of big pluses, a PCC of 1 sees me a 0.4 cut in HI so I‘m pleased about that. Plus though I had three grim holes over which I dropped 7 shots, I only dropped 3 to par over the other 15 and in the context of matchplay that’s good solid golf - so boost of confidence ahead of club summer handicap singles semi on Wednesday.

Off shortly to the range to see if I can find out where the bottom of my swing arc is as at the moment my medium/long irons and fairway clubs are not meeting up with it as they should, with the ball having far too much familiarity with the bottom groove of these clubs.

A day to forget. Entered the medal. Playing as a two ball stuck behind about four four-balls and wasn't let through so it took over 4 hours which is a joke at our place. I'm absolutely sick now of playing in 25mph winds every week as well. Played abysmal again just like Friday, but didn't even have the great putts to bail me out this time. Shot 93 for a nett 79. Only two pars. A couple of 6s on par 3s.

This game we play is just heartbreaking sometimes. I had been playing terribly for a month or so through June, then at the end of July I had three really good rounds in a row to let me think I'd come through the other side and stronger for it. Nope. Friday and Sunday this weekend though, back to playing worse than ever. Every other sport the more you play the better you get, but not this one. In this game nothing you do matters it's just going to kick you back down regardless.

Played today in the Sunday roll-up (as usual) and most of us decided today was the day to enter the Monthly medal - today being the alternate day to yesterday when the weather wasn't so kind. Well, at least it was sunny & didn't rain - but there was a heck of a wind. Nonetheless, I had by far, my best round in the past 12 months or so. Gross 81, nett 65, and leader in the clubhouse. Not that many more people to come in & post scores, so fingers crossed. Won the roll up as well, so a good day all round. Having played some abysmal golf in the past 3-4 months, its just nice to have, at last, a day when the golf seems to work.

Second round of the club championships today, weather better than yesterday but my golf was much worse!

Soldiered on until the 18th, when I thought my third shot off the tee had found sanctuary but when we got up there it was nowhere to be seen, my determination to put in a score come-what-may had deserted me at this point and so I NR'd.

Started okay but half way through the front nine cracks began showing, then the shanks started and it all fell apart.

Never move to the West Country then

It is the days without wind that you notice.

Took me a couple of years after moving here from Surrey to get used to it and we are in South Somerset / North Dorset nowhere near the coast.

Was it that windy today ? Didn’t feel like it was that bad

As for the rest - that’s golf for you

74 (+2)

+4 front 9 and i was all over the place but holes some good putts
-2 back 9 (gross) - could've been -4 with 2 big lip outs

Putting lesson has really paid off, much more comfortable with the alignment and striking the ball much better which is helping with longer lag putts.

8th day of golf on the spin today which is a record for me. Scratch game for the club (36 holes matchplay) which made it my 10th round in the 8 days. Managed a couple of wins today but I’m so glad that I won’t be playing again until next weekend. 😴
