I fear I've made a terrible mistake

Id have a little chat with your club pro and see what he says rather than strip off a £25 grip I use a mid size grip on my putter and would never go back I love it works well for me but everyone is different .
 
Also now wondering if your loss of distance is also due to a handsy action... do you just need to recalibrate the length of your backswing?

I have a relatively wide stance when putting from distance and always try to go from toe-to-toe as a minimum on my longer putts.. the set-up is interesting, and I've maybe fallen into a bad habit. I'll have a play about on the practice green shortly. The grip though has 18 holes later to save its' life.. ;)
 
Good luck with it today :thup:. I moved to left hand low last year. Took my wrists out of the stroke and immediately I started leaving putts short. Once I'd recalibrated my stroke length it was much better and more consistent.
