I bought today.....

After reading the comments about the new Spider ZT I spent Friday night going through YT reviews and the one thing that they all seemed to keep coming back to was the price of the ZT compared to the S2S and how there's very little in terms of results between the two.

I've been looking at the S2S for some time and had a few putts with it at my club in the past, but Saturday morning I went and had a proper test before I played and armed with about £100 worth of pro shop vouchers I took the plunge.

Took it straight onto the course for my medal round and proceeded to have a very decent putting round, including making birdie with it from off the green on the 3rd. I love the feel off the face and the roll it puts on the ball is beautiful.

I've got the AI-One Cruiser (not zero torque) and used it for 2 rounds now. Had my best 2 putting rounds all season.

As you say, the roll is brilliant. I'm noticing it on long putts, it's rolling noticeably better for me than my mallet putter. Even on heel strikes it's performing much better for me, overall loving the cruiser even if the setup feels weird with the longer handle. I'm just starting everything online with it, long may it continue. Golf is fun again when you can get the ball in the hole.

How much of this is the putter and how much is new shiny syndrome

I always find the last club I brought I want to practice with more so suddenly becomes my "best" club in my eyes

And then when you get a new putter you seem to cut it more slack. Getting the correct weight from 10 foot goes from "why didn't you drop!" To "good distance control there"

Probably new shiny putter with no mental scars but I’ll take it while it lasts.

I track all my stats with Shot Scope, this season I’ve been losing nearly 4 shots per round putting to a scratch. Last 2 rounds I lost 0.54 shots and gained 1.01 shots. Round just finished I holed 91 feet of putts, my 3rd best ever since tracking my stats.

That's a decent return!

I find sometimes with tracking it can be linked to how close I left it

IE on the fringe Max 2 putt but just on green with 20 foot putt suddenly 3 putt can come in lol 🤣

That’s why I like the strokes gained method. Every distance carries a different value.

I also look at my make rates from 3-6 and 6-9 feet as those are my weakest areas and the ones I really need to improve. Last 2 rounds have been much better in that range and I’m actually confident over the putts.

Ping Scottsdale Tyne 4 putter from my friendly pro shop. Price matched online and loyalty points for next purchase.

Nice putter, see if this one can replace the Bettinardi, once I get back to playing of course.

But for now, the putt out mat and a putt-o-matic machine will have to suffice.
As much as I wanted to like this putter, it's not for me. Was down at the club at the weekend on the putting green and I just can't aim with the thing. Pace is fine but that's bloody useless when you're 3ft off line.
I honestly didn't thing that moving from a centre shaft would make that much difference, but here we are.

Ping putter available on an eBay near you soon!

A white Calvin Klein bucket hat, lightweight variety for keeping the sun off. I quite often forget to put sunblock on my ears so this should fix that. 😄

Ping BunkR wedge.
I have been struggling with green side bunkers recently, especially at my home course where the sand is extremely fine and often hard packed. Having seen all the reviews on you tube it seemed to be too good to be true and I must say I was sceptical, but not being able to get out of bunkers first time was costing up to eight shots a round.
I decided to bite the bullet and buy one thinking that if it didn’t work I could easily sell it on as the demand for it is high. My first round with it in the bag, I wasn’t in a bunker at all, but the next time I deliberately put a couple of shots in to try it. What a revelation! The ball simply popped up and out each time. Fairly expensive at £150, but in my opinion, money well spent.

been thinking the same but resisted so far ... may need to get my hands on one to try it out

I had a Callaway SureOut in the bag for a while, which is the same concept pretty much. In dry weather when there's loads of sand in there, it worked a treat, and I thought I had it cracked. But when there's not so much sand, or the sand is compacted in winter, or because it's wet, it's no good - it just bounces off the surface and knifes the ball. So I took it out again in the end and went back to a normal 9 bounce 60.

Vokey have released the Black Vapor SM10 (black shaft too) for pre-order, so suppose I will have to...

Edit: Custom 54 and 60 degree on pre-order.

They look an awful lot like the original Ping Eye 2 SW which is/was very effective in sand. I had one and while it was great out of sand, for me it was useless for anything else such as approach shots or chipping and I didn't have room in the bag for a speciality bunker wedge. It was probably the ginormous offset that did for me.

My mate however does have room (he only uses half a dozen clubs) and is an absolute wizard with it from bunkers. He is also tighter than a duck's chuff, so the price suited him as well, you could probably get 5 eye 2s for the price of the BunkR.
