I am seriously thinking of joining Hurlston Hall GC in Ormskirk again this season but don’t really have or know playing partners that would make it worthwhile and cost effective.
any of you guys out there members there or fancy a game there now and again (half price green fee for you if I’m a member), just want to know if it’s cost effective or not 👍

Its a bit of an awkward one up there.

Either join a premium course (Hillside, S and A etc) or one of the others like Hurlston, Mossock.

I think Hurlston is probably the only Merseyside course I've never gotten round to playing, so dont know if its any good.

I'll come for a friendly knock one day though, if you join.

Played Hurlston quite a lot as brother is a member there. Course isn’t bad, they’ve put a lot of money in to facilities and members really friendly, brother plays 2-3 times a week, drop me a pm if you want me to send him your details.

One of the lads off here played it the other week, it was on 18 temps. Said he was sorry he went up there.

Id like to give it a crack when it drys up if you fancy setting up a meet?

I’ve been a member at hurlston before it’s a great track in summer, bit of pain in winter too quick to put on temp greens imo. If I join again your all welcome to come have a knock as my guest 👍

I've heard the Hurlston get's wet in the winter.

I've played a few rounds towards the end of last year as a visitor to Mossack Hall. The guys in the pro shop say they only ever go on temporary greens if it's frost, or work being done on them.

They supposedly have very good drainage for the area as it gets very wet. I played when it had been raining for days around here, some standing water on the course and the practice green, but not a stupid amount, the greens however were free of standing water.

They do have a little problem about the start of the back 9 with disease on the greens. With the couple of members I played with it was a recurring problem. The first round wasn't bad, but second round on the 11th hole, the green was practically unusable.

If I had a choice between Hurlston and Mossack, I'd probably go Mossack, as the members seem a good bunch and it's one of the only playable courses in the area during wet weather (apart from the premium S&A/Hillside etc).

Their membership runs April to April I think, but usually if you join around now the members say they basically charge you a full year membership, but you get the months from now until April for free.
