This is another bogey-hole for me on our course. A par is rare for me, and it's easy to turn a bogey into a double or triple.
So my question is, how would you play it if you were me?
Standing on the tee, the oob right is about 10' away from you, and your bad shot is a push-fade. At driver landing distance the oob right is about 25' to the right of the fairway, which is maybe 25yds wide.
Anything missed left will be blocked out from the green by big trees, which are just a bit further than your Sunday best drive. If you go right and stay inbounds you've a fair chance of being blocked out by small trees.
A good shot with driver will leave about a 4 iron to the green.
At about 3 wood landing distance is a ditch in the fairway. You can play out of it but no chance of going for the green.
Hybrid or 4 iron off the tee have a chance of trickling into the ditch depending on the bounce and roll they get.
If you lay up short of the ditch, the green is a very well struck 3 wood away, but don't forget the oob still down the right hand side.
Any misshit second shot is at risk from another ditch about 60yds short of the green.
The final thing is that the hole is too early in the round to judge how you're swinging, or to base a decision on your score.
I have our season winners final tomorrow morning, and all I can think about is what to do off the tee on this hole.
My thoughts at the moment are to aim driver at the big trees on the left and try to fade it back to the fairway. If it goes straight then I wedge over the trees and hopefully be on in 3 from about 80-100yds.
