I think the problem of taking a test is two fold. Firstly there is the time issue in getting this set up from scratch which many busy clubs will baulk from. Secondly and more importantly at a time when golf numbers are increasing nomadicly and members are leaving to take up pay and play options, anything like this is only going to make joining a club more elitist still and drive potential members away

The Idea is for the benefit of Nomadic Golfers who cannot get or maintain a Handicap or don't want to get or maintain a Handicap. However it will have a knock on effect as I'll get to.

The more courses we try the more we know what we want from a club & sooner of later will find a local one we like & want to stay with. And on the flipside, anything that increases members & non members good practice of course maintainance has to be good for all concened, the players, both none members & Members, not to mention the clubs they play at. Far from making it elitist It will mean clubs will potentially have far more people coming through the gate to play & some of those will decide to stay to become members.

I can see this as being positive for Club Membership over the long term.
