How Much Does The Wind Effect Your Performance

I quite like playing in the wind as well. It's fun guessing what club to use and where to aim. It's also very satisfying when you connect well with a drive with the wind behind you.

However I find my putting really suffers in the wind. Generally it's the best part of my game but it can be awful when it's windy.

Statistically I think I always play better on the first 9, now we have a very good halfway house at which one must stop (be rude not too), this thread has made me realise, no I do not play better with the wind.

i dont mind playing in the wind, if its a 1-2 club wind i play to my normal standard,

though it can often get up to a 4 club wind where i play, last saturday i was taking 3 irons fron 150 yards,
in which case i dont play better,

it does help my game though, when the wind goes golf just seems easy, well for the next round at least

I don't like playing in high winds. It's as much about the effect it has on my balance and rhythm as it's affect on the ball flight.

I also always feel hitting an approach down wind is harder to judge than hitting into the wind, where I just club up or try to hit a knock down shot.

um until abut 3 weeks ago ive always struggled in the wind... or as the scotts would see it, light breeze. but after spending alot of time practicing knockdown shots i quite enjoy it now. different types of shots required and different approach shots seems to spice the game up nicely.

i found teh biggest factor is not being ashamed to club up 2/3/4 clubs if required, just get it to the hole.

My prediction is that it will be a fleeting victory and normal Imurg service will be resumed tomorrow - 3-5 point margin

Err, Hate to break it to you Homer, Todays score:- Imurg 28 Pts, Fragger 34 pts, CVG 37 points
and the 2's pot rolls over again, next week will be playing for £24

I play ok in the wind tee to green. Not that I possess an array of wind busting shots. I think it is a constant reminder to think carefully with club selection. I do struggle with short putts when it's blowy.

Well done that man. How come you usually roll over on a Friday like a tame labrador wanting its tummy tickled and as soon as I suggest Imurg will thump you, you come out like a golfer. Maybe I need to send these messages to you every Thursday. Or was it that bro played like a wally

Ha!
Didn't play like a wally, just had no luck at all.
One putt with about a foot of break basically didn't...
Another putt was going in until it hit a spike mark 3 inches out...
A poor tee shot put me under a tree, stooping with my 4 wood and swinging baseball stylee, I made perfect contact only to smack squarely into a 1 inch wide sapling and finishing in the rough behind me..
One of those days when not a lot went right.....

Fear not - the Golfing Gods tell me they have something up their sleeves for Fragger in the coming weeks..

I played at bamburgh recently. In mental wind. It was a laugh, but not golf. Hit a driver on the first, 150 yards tops. Another hole, I hit my driver about 170 long, but about 200 out to the right. I would not want to medal round there. Fun as a holiday game though.

Think I played Goswick the same day Murph, was it the Thursday?

Mental stuff, but great fun.

We didnt laugh.....much

Actually the 5 inch wide tree was about 2 yards right of his line, wind from behind, so if it hadnt hit the tree it would have been 30 yards off centre when it landed. as it was, it hit this tree dead centre, looped over his head and landed in the clag about 25 yards behind him.

Did I mention that we nearly wet ourselves :-)

I find it difficult to play in the wind, I'd rather not play than play in a heavy wind it affects me and my game so much.

Maybe all I need is a good round in the wind.

I find it doesn't affect my shots as much as others I'm playing with as I hit the ball quite low anyway. I think it's more mental with me.

I had my best competition score this year on one of our more (wimpy southern) windy days.
