Pretty easy Mike to be fair, But absolutly Stunningly BEAUtiful. Its easy to get caught up in the 'nature' of the place. Have you played Forrest Pines? Apparently its very similar but not as flat and a little more rough under the tree's instead of pine needles.
I must admit when I saw the £50 green fee I was a little apprehensive but I would happily go back and pay that again. Does help when you play well though.
I wouldnt say the greens where overly quick but where pretty true. Tee boxes in good condition and fairways like royal carpets.
I will, hopefully, have 4 attempts and bagging a little prize from this!! County Champs start tomorrow. 36 holes on Saturday and after (fingers crossed) making the cut another 36 holes on Sunday!!
First to post a score, shot 79 for nett 67 4 under today in the first round of club championship, out again tomorrow for my last game of the weekend good luck everyone.
No point me entering. 6 points after the first 3 holes today, off of 3/4 h'cap. Thought, that's the how the day was going to be. Nope. Picked up three times. No need to enter this little comp for me. Maybe next time!!
Guess my score is no good either. 7 over at the turn, doubled 10, bogeyed 11, parred in from there for an 82 nett 70 two under. Chuffed as my course is playing very tough at the moment. Also chuffed to par 7 in a row off the back tees. Hopefully I will be cut 0.4 and get back to 11.1.
And could be my first blazer points of the year too. Doesn't mean much, coz I am never going to win it (top 20 in medals get points, 20 for 1st, 1 for 20th), but I have a bet on the most points with some mates, so points = money.
Winner of the blazer wins a hideous nylon bus conductors blazer to wear to the AGM. An honour I could do without. And on current form, will never have to worry about.
okay, annual club outing today saturday, went to Torwoodlee near Galashields and I surprised myself having never played there before I shot 76 gross net 70.
County OOM yesterday and shot 76-8=68 CSS 72 which took the nett prize (£60) and got me a 0.8 cut. Did finish with a double at 17 and a bogey up the last too. Never mind there was some really good confidence building stuff for me to take away from it.
All in all well chuffed and am looking forwrd to playing off 7 now
And then I realised I'd fallen asleep in front of the golf. Actually played like a dog today and finished with 29 points including 2 shanks into the pond on 18 in front of a packed patio
I was shocking on the front nine but actually had a solid back 9 (apart from 18) and thought I'd at least break the 30 point barrier (only had 13 going out). Chipping needs major surgery but putting after a recent letter and a change of weapon is getting better.
No chance of me winning the prize then - even if I did tease you all
Only one small, tiddly, incy-wincy problem with my plan....
The whole weekend was a 3-day PAIRS comp.....D'oh.....
Tee to green we were very good (i.m.o.) but the putting was a disaster.....I nearly tapped in after lagging a monster up to 3 foot......until all 3 of the other players shouted NOOOoooooo!
I'm not sure what the leading casual Stableford score is at the moment, however I will post mine anyway...you never know
Having played poorly from tee to green last Wednesday (as in very, very poorly!) I went straight out and tried working it out on the range on Thursday but to no avail. I eventually gave up hitting balls on the range and went and practiced my short game instead (something I rarely devote time to ...
It seems to have paid dividends today as a better (although still not great) long game was able to combine with an unusually solid short game and decent putting. I managed to amass 35 points which included two birdies, one which was on Stroke index 2 for a net albatross and 5 points. I do believe watching the lack of wrist movement of Fndz-Castano whilst pitching / chipping at Wentworth yesterday helped enormously, and I'm starting to feel more confident for my club knock out tie next Sunday.
I didn't take the spoils from my partner however who went round in +7 off of a 15 handicap!
I'm relatively happy though, certainly in comparison to my scoring last Wednesday! Here's hoping this is good enough to get me in amongst the contenders for the 3rd prize
