How hard can it be joining a golf club ?

The time to ask your questions is at the "interview" stage.
This is an initial enquiry.
Some clubs don't include costs on their websites
I'm sure most clubs would have a standard form they could send out with enough info to enable you to make an initial decision while comparing deals from other clubs..

Im coming round to your way of thinking.

Shall we set up one giant conference call in place of the forum? Would be a lot easier than all of this typing.

Oh well I don't have Facebook so that's me done, people appreciate a personal touch and it's much nicer to have a conversation. I'd imagine if you were seriously considering joining a club you would have lost of questions and emailing back and forth would just be a bit naff. Give them a call if they don't answer call back in an hour, it's pretty easy really

Some people prefer a personal touch, some don't.

Personally I don't want to talk to anyone if I'm at an initial enquiry stage about most things and often when purchasing I will make decisions based on where I can purchase without having to speak to anyone.

Pretty much sums up people nowadays I think lol so out of touch with what s happening round about them because they are too busy on phones or checking eBay to save a fiver from a purchase they could make from the pro shop

cant say i agree Ian, plenty of questions Id want to know before getting to that stage. and what if the club doesnt have an interview stage?

Whichever way you enquire, if it were me I would want to visit the place, even before enquiring, to get a feel of what the place is like.

Turn up, speak to the gm, say you are interested in joining, as it is local, but have never played it, and you might blag a free round. I did. I am still there 15 years later.

It is really irritating when clubs bury their joining info behind a contact us and we might tell you nonsense on the website (presumably so they don't openly advertise the subs to other local competitors who will know anyway). Why not just have it fully spelled out on there regardless of how many proposers/seconders/joining fee/etc?

My own club is not rapid in answering emails, but that's a function of the resources in the office.

I agree that some need to join the rest if us in the 21st century, or in some cases , the 1989s! (Got to start somewhere)

I pretty much respond to work emails as soon as I see them... even if it's just an acknowledgment. Paper I read recently talked about Instant Messages replacing emails .... as said early Whatsapp and similar are replacing texts

The world moves on...some folk havent

We use Lync at work, almost replaced emails completely. It's a pain in the backside when you're trying to skive.

If I fancied joining a golf club I wouldn't give up if I perceived a slight as I might just be being over-sensitive or indeed it might be unintended. I'd just follow-up my Emails with a telephone call.

Which clubs and what climate? Some are doing OK especially in Surrey and perhaps they don't feel the need to respond instantly
That falls into the category of rude and arrogant IMO. I'd look elsewhere.

As for the OP, I agree totally, whether he can phone, go round etc isn't really the issue. The golf club have given an option of using email as a way to contact them and he has used it and they don't reply to it. Rude!!
I can see the issue with the time replying to email though, especially if it's by volunteers, couple days away, there might be several people done the same as you, plus a load a crap spam emails. I'd hazard a guess that emails will be the last to get checked after phone messages, twitter Facebook etc. Probably only done if there's nothing else to do. But again it's no excuse, if they are going to leave an email address as a way to contact them they should check it regularly.
I asked on here a while back about lessons, got a good response from here and emailed about 7 of them, I received precisely zero replies.

Granted
But a lot of questions can be answered from the website info...Or an info pack supplied on request via an email...😁

3-4 days and the OP didn’t have any acknowledgment from 60% of the clubs they contacted. If that’s not dreadful service then its smacks of elitism (we’ll get back to you when we’re good and ready) Although it’s probably just the former to blame

I guess it’s easy to give clubs an easy-ride just because the Membership Sec might be a ‘volunteer’ or the office is only staffed part-time but that just doesn’t cut it these days
(surely that would be referenced on the website or auto-reply anyway, i.e as our membership sec is a voluntary part-time role it may take us several days to fully respond to e-mails etc etc & the OP would know and adjust expectations)

And why would someone who can’t answer an e-mail be assumed to be available each day 9-5 over the phone if the OP calls instead (& if the initial point of contact changes to the pro-shop or office admin staff if the OP were to call instead then the e-mail should also have been managed by them)

Do you email Christmas cards? Birthday cards? It's much nicer to see something hand written, I think most people appreciate the personal touch much more than something semi-automated

Jeez, are you 26 going on 126!

i can see this club just itching to get you on their books.

talk about mountain out of a molehill

What's the best way to contact the irony police? Email or telephone?

We need to file a report of people bickering about written communication by writing to each other on an Internet forum.
