How does your education system works?

Nothing subjective or misleading my friend, just facts.....

IMO the OP was looking for an explanation of the way State and Public Education operated in this country. Not political slants on the way Government administer it.

Some of the replies here are not just facts but personal attacks on Ministers and biased views on the change process the Government is introducing. Everyone does not share your views.

Just to confuse things, private schools are often referred to as "public" schools for some strange reason. I went to private school but I'm an ex public schoolboy

No you pay all costs. Depending on which School you go to the cost varies, Eton/Harrow for example will run into tens of thousands of pounds

Note that the state supports private 'schools' indirectly as they are able to claim 'charitable' status and get taxs breaks etc designed for charities. So let's not forget that we the taxpayer part fund the education of the privileged - jolly decent of us don't you think.

Not shocked to hear that at all. After all they must try and keep the costs down for all the MP's children that go to them!!

Why private schools are 'encouraged' to support local state schools however they can - and take students from poorer backgrounds. Strangely enough many private schools are rather lax about their responsibilities in this respect. After all do parents paying the fees want their little Johnni mixing with an intelligent oik from a local town - or their teachers being diverted from embellishing the life of their little darling Jemi to teaching at the local comp. Methinks there tends to be a bit of foot dragging much of the time.
