What use do you get from your golf club?

Are you the type that turns up, gets the clubs from the car, plays, then clubs in car and go home?

Are you the type that plays, has a wet in the bar afterwards.

Or are you the full on golf club member? Plays, has a drink, something to eat, engages in clubhouse banter. Goes up to the club socially for a drink or a meal?
There are guys who practically live at my club. I see them on the course every time I'm playing. They spend hours in the clubhouse afterwards and make golf a full days experience.

Personally I like a round and time permitting enjoy a drink afterwards as a wind down and round "debrief" with my mates. Don't particularly use the clubhouse socially. The wife wouldn't even think about going up there for a drink of an evening!

I'm the same as you Basher, my wife would rather be dragged over hot coals than go to any clubhouse. I play,if in company that have a drink I'll have one if not I'll happily head home.

I think given the amount of time I spend there, especially in the summer that its fair to call it my second home. I get involved in all aspects of the club. I understand that in this hectic world there isn't always time to stop for a post match drink or a meal but for me I love the post match banter. The ones I can't understand are those that turn up, get changed in the car, and then go straight off and never set foot inside the clubhouse at all

I play at least once a week, use the bar afterwards for either a pint or a coffee and something to eat.
I would use the snooker room occasionally and am having my daughters birthday parties there next week in the function room. I wish it had a gym though as it would be all the reasons I need to be there more often!!

Guilty on occasions I'm afraid Homer.

It's a question of time with me. I work all week (sometimes weekends as well) so family time is somewhat precious.
HIDs is great, she never complains about me playing golf. She knows I've worked hard all week and feels I deserve a bit of "me time"

I do however think she'd be a bit miffed if I left home for a 9 o'clock tee off and returned home in time for my tea!
Like I said though, I do enjoy a drink after a round, especially in the summer months.

It usually depends on what time of day I play. If its an early morning round I may hang around and have a bite to eat and a drink but during the summer months when I play after work it usually depends on how busy it is and therefore what time I finish the round as to whether I stay for a drink or not.

I've been a member for 3 months or so, I haven't yet stepped foot in the clubhouse. This is mainly because I haven't received a membership pack or any form of welcome and I haven't been told I can use my £75 bar levy yet. I assume they will send me some kind of confirmation :D

Basher,

Don't get me wrong I understand. I've done it before. Running late, screech to a halt, change the shoes laces flapping and onto the first tee. I understand it even more so if the round has been painfully slow and all you want to do is get back to the family. Its the ones that do it week in and week out and never under any circumstance seem to set foot inside the clubhouse walls. They even go into the pro shop from the door outside the 10th tee

Iv been a member of my club for 10 months my dad has been a member for the past 12 years.
After our knockabout rounds there usually saturdays we'll play a round load the car up have a shower and head up to the club house for a drink and some grub and thats usually after every social round.
If its a comp on a sunday morning which iv yet to get to play what we'll do is try get an early tee time (9-9.30)
and head straight home for sunday dinner after it as we have a 40 minute drive to our club.
That way you keep the kids and HiD happy and your not gone all day sunday.

Like most I try to get in for a drink after a round when possible. We have €100 levy on our bar card and only used it up last year by bringing a few mates to play, had a meal and then a good few pints. This year want to use through out the year and might even try and get the missus up as the restaurant is excellent.

I seem to use the clubhouse most times I'm up at the club. The post round drinks and blether after a round are a must. I also use the catering fairly regularly, often having lunch with the family there a couple of sundays a month during the main season. I've used parts of the clubhouse for business meetings, why not put some business their way rather than paying for hotel meeting facilities ?

I always go in the club after a round and buy a drink and have some food.My course is 200 yrds from my house,my girlfriend brings the kids down after my round once or twice a week and we all sit and have a drink. Also try and support the pro shop even though its pretty poor service.

I rarely visit my club. Totally cheesed off with the restrictions placed on teeing off times on Sundays which is about the only time I can get to play because I work every Saturday.
Was really looking forward to being a member there after joining last March but totally disillusioned by the whole thing and don't think I will be renewing come April 1st.
I guess it's just me.
I like playing social golf with my friends, and as I can't get them on to the course at a sensible time then I'd rather play elsewhere and will go back to my nomadic golf style of the past 9 years or so.

Before I became a member at my club, I used to go with my Brother-in-law and his mate and never ever went into the clubhouse. Not because I didn't want to but they used to get the green fees and cards and off we'd go and head straight home after.

A different story now that I'm a member and make good use of the club, meeting up before and having a chat and banter with members. Unless I've got a family occasion on, will always have some lunch after.

We also now have a members social club and have quiz nights, meet and eat somewhere local to club, and other events are planned throughout the year. It's only a small club and always very friendly and welcoming.

At the start of 2009 the assistant pro took over the pro shop and started with a blank canvass. He's really got it looking smart with plenty of choice and most of the leading brands. I like to buy most of my gear from him as he's helpful and always willing to do a deal.

Sorry I've gone on a bit :)

Get on to the secretary or manager and tell them, dont wait.

i use the club in all ways as wife a member we would eat and play have a few drinks then in nsummer the wee man goes to the kids golf so i think we use the club a great deal

Played golf with a guy recently at my club. He has been a member for over 15 years. He asked me how you get a bar card. They have only been out for 5 years, and you can't buy a drink or enter a comp without one. I guess he is a really valuable member to have in your club.

I'm firmly in the 'play a round and stay for a couple of beer's' camp on this one, and occasionaly linger for something to eat and a few more etc.

We also have a hardcore who literally spend £1000's across the bar, and for who'm the Clubhouse is 'Home'.

However, I dont feel badly toward anyone who doesnt venture inside, I mean if they have paid their fees (£870), then that entitles them to play on the course, and what they do before or after is their own decision.
Its the Golf you join for surely ? When my kids were young, I certainly lingered less.
