I ask this because today my pro changed how I place my hands on my club and my grip now feels much more natural, neutral and consistent. Can't believe I've been doing it wrong all this time.

Now I place the club at address, let my left arm hang naturally and bring my left palm in from the side, place the grip diagonally across my fingers, wrap them round before lowering my palm onto the shaft and checking the v points to my right shoulder.

After a poor rushed start to my 9 holes today I gradually got better scoring bogey, bogey, double bogey, bogey, par, par, par with three consecutive GIR.

Have bought a cone shaped hat complete with large embroidered 'D' :D

If this change was in a lesson thats fine but I wouldn't worry too much about technical issues once you're out on the course. Unless you have a particularly weak/strong grip that'll impede your swing regularly I'd always wait until the range to make any changes

Most important thing in golf, gotta get it right!
I have always struggled to get it right.
Good guide is to have both v's pointing to close to your right shoulder. Put a matchstick into the left hand v and the right hand thumb pad should barely touch the matchstick. Vardon or interlocking grips are both ok by me.

Tiger thats exactly the way i grip the club.....
I hold all my clubs more in the fingers than the palm....

I think that doing this also rid me of a nasty slice when i first took up the game a few years ago i now have more of a fade but from reading about this type of grip it give you alot more power through the ball at the expense of a small bit of accuracy.....

It also creates a much faster swing speed too....Dont be surprised if your getting more distance on your shots....

This is the first article i ever came across when i started to get more into the game and i keep it for reference all the time.....

I couldn't tell you. It's probably the one part of my game that is so natural I don't even think about it. Whatever you do it's one of the fundamentals you HAVE to get right.

Thanks Kid. Interesting reading. Realised yesterday that my grip varied from very slightly weak to neutral to overly strong which explains so much. Actually feel more confident and in control just standing over the ball
