How did you get on?

Won our saturday non qualifier 9 hole comp, 7 over for the first 4 holes, two under gross for the last 4... 18 points off 3/4 hdcp to win by 1 point.

Shot 89 today after another horror start, I really need to warm up rather than just roll up and play! Still rolled in birdies 6 and 7 for the week having done 3 on Wednesday to add to the ones mentioned above.

Shot a horrendous 102 off 19 for a net 83. Few topped shots on the front, missed putts and just general silly mistakes. Had a fair start, but the wind really picked up and made it difficult. 150 yard par 3 with a 5 iron which didn't reach and went in the water didn't help, great strike too.

Shot the world's best 80 today in pretty much gale force winds. Should hopefully win at least the scratch prize. I hit 4 greens and that was good! Could hardly stand up never mind swing.

I was 5 over standing on the 11th tee. Teed up , swung, was almost blown over and topped it 4 whole yards. A moment of silence followed, quckly replaced by howling laughter. Then I did it again on my 2nd! Managed a heroic 7, then played the last 7 in level, hitting only 2 greens. At the last I had to aim out of bounds and the wind moved it a full 40 odd yards back to the centre.

Felt like I'd been beaten up. A hard earned .1 back unless its non counting. Can't see anyone having a good score. I was genuinely tickled pink with my round, the highlight being a 200 yard ,50 yard right to left 5 wood to 10 feet.

Played for the club team today in the Bell Cup, didnt play my best but 3 back to back pars gave me the cushion to win 2 up. Team won too,

Played in the swindle on Saturday and missed out winning by one point. Shot a gross 82 of 12 handicap and got 38 points, 18 both from and back. My club handicap is 14 so would of been a net 68. Drove well, but chipped and putted really really well which is where all my points were scored.

Today, I played in a medal comp and for the first time chose to play in a afternoon slot, last in fact. Turned up at the club to be told that some bandit had already posted a net 62 of a 20 hcp, so I already knew that to win was impossible. This actually relaxed me and I went out with the thought of just getting a good round and maybe a little cut. Started well, bogey, par, bogey, par, double, par, bogey, bogey, par for a 41 front nine, back nine started par, par, bogey, then took a triple, par, another triple, then par par par for a 44. Without the triples I would have been under my handicap.

I really have a problem with two things creating problems, no bite on my pitch shots at all, a mental block to the drive on out tight tree lined 13th hole and bunker play when we have vary conditions (some soft, some wet, some hard).

Very frustrating weekend, but looking forward to weekly stableford wednesday, Marriot gold day Friday for work and then swindle Saturday.

Saturday shot 83 which due to CSS going up 2 shots and my 9 :o being rounded to 7 meant I just scraped in buffer.

Sunday lost on the 1st extra hole in the final of our winter pairs ko.

Probably a stiff breeze for a links player but for an inland course the wind was ridiculous. On consecutive holes I hit driver, 7 iron to a 500yd par 5, then driver, 4 wood to a 400yd par 4.

Buffer Zone golf for me.

Which, considering I had 5 doubles and a treble, means the rest of my round was pretty good!

Just a bit rusty off the back pegs, found a wee bit of trouble that has not been in range for the last couple of months!

All shall be sorted for next week (hopefully!!)

Played well on Saturday in a friendly knock and was hopeful for a team comp on Sunday. The wind put paid to that and all 4 of the team struggled to get to grips with it. Comp was 4 man teams, best 2 scores off 3/4 handicaps. We had a measly 72 points and was way short of what we thought would be need but the leaders were only on 78 when we left the club so not a bad effort.

It did feel different being back on the whites, only a couple of holes on our course where the difference is large enough to change club selection but felt good to be playing in some sun!

Well just back after our Monthly Medal and i suppose i didnt give too bad of an account of myself.......Shot 84 for a nett 70 in stupid strong winds.....I might even get a small cut as i think that the CSS may go up to 72.......

I think if had of played today with my old swing before the lessons i would have struggled to not break 100.....
It was impossible to club......A few stray tee shots in the last 1/3 of the course messed up a card that would otherwise have been very good for the weather......

At the turn i was 5 over gross.....Flying......Had Pars on 10 and 11 doubled our Par 5 12th after a great tee shot and a great 5 iron to leave a wedge in for the 3rd...... Dont ask...

2 doubles after that on 14 and 15 and a great scrambled par on our par 5 16th..... A bogie on 17 and home with a Par...Not too shoddy...All in all happy out with my play in the conditions that were there.....Force 5 wind speed....

This, this is pretty much what happened to me, 84, 12 over, controlled the ball in the wind all day, would not have been able to with my old swing. Personal best and CSS was 75 so it was 9 over for me. Remains to be seen if that means anything.

Texas Scramble yesterday which was the official start for our new club captain elect for this season.

Drawn teams of 4 with a male player from each category plus a lady, there were 33 teams so the majority of tee's were doubled up so thoughts of a slow round was very worrying.

Each player has to complete 4 drives of which 1 must be a par 3, who's ever drive is chosen doesn't play that next shot and so on until putted out.

My captain of the day left my last 2 drives to the last 2 holes, talk about pressure!

It was warm & dry but heavy blustery wind made for difficult conditions.

With the range of handicaps we had we were allotted 10 1/8th shots to take off our gross and netted a 62 which didn't come close to some scores achieved.

OK-ish personal round, not striking the ball as well as I have been, think I'm not fully focused due to stress of house move and all the goings-on.

In the doghouse for not coming home straight away and falling in, again! HID isn't speaking to me but my new GM Monthly has just arrived so I'll just get stuck into that :)

QF of the Winter Pairs (greensomes), we lost after 5 extra holes  having come back from being dormie 2 down to win 17 and 18 with good par 3's.

Got off to a bad start - we thought it was 4BBB and only found out it was greensomes on the 1st tee. Neither my partner or I had played greensomes before, so weren't sure of the order of play. Ended up playing out of turn on the 1st and losing the hole but we won the 2nd straight back.

Overall, I played quite well. I hit it long and straight off the tee, so we used a lot of my drives. Sadly, my partner's iron play wasn't up to his usual standard, so I didn't get many chances at birdie. Whenever we did use one of his drives, my irons were not bad - gave us decent chances at 4, 5, 9, 13 and 14 - he converted at 13 and 14 to win both holes and get us back to 1 down. We lost 15 after I chunked a straightforward chip shot when were in pole position to win the hole. However, I holed a good 4 footer downhill to halve 16, then good lag putts on 17 and 18 to win with pars.

First extra hole, I hit a great drive and my partner did the business and put us in close, only for me to miss an easy 8 footer for birdie and the win  I holed another 4 footer to halve the 2nd, and again at the 3rd, before the opposition drained a 15 footer to halve in par at the 4th.

Down the 5th, I hit another really good drive and left us 185 out. Opposition 40 yards back but he hit a brilliant 3 wood onto the front edge - they weren't long, so he must have hit it with everything he had. It was a great shot. My partner pulled his approach left slightly and left me an easy pitch from a good lie. But I fluffed it, basically handing the match to them.

I thought my short game was getting better, and I did hole a few 4 footers (a problem for me in the past) and hit a couple of good shots from close in, but those 2 chunked chips pretty much cost us the match. It's that that's keeping out of single figures, so I'm off to see the pro for a lesson, I think.

Still, it was a good game, we shot about 76 or 77 and still didn't win. And it was only Winter Pairs, so no big deal. Mostly, it was nice to get out and get a game in the sunshine  and to find that some parts of my game are in good nick. If I can fix the chipping, I'll be dangerous.

Off the comp tees, 7 pars, 6 bogies, the other 5 very forgettable.

I'm getting there though :)

Heavens opened just as we teed off, played really badly from tee to green.
Just couldn't get grips dry.
Only putting well saved a 3 figure score
1st time haven't broken 90 for ages.
Only missed out buffering by 1 shot though, CSS was +3.
Even windier today but dry - and played, ok.
Couple of minor changes made a big difference.
(That and no rain)

Was it that bad Pal?

I've just remembered a bit of dialogue between myself and Homer which explains how bad I was without getting an infraction. This was as we were walking to the 17th green which I had hit for once;

Homer: "If you birdie this, can you still get in the buffer?
Me: "Only if I eagle the last (5 points), and CSS goes up three"
